India: Man arrested for raping, killing daughter in UP

Gorakhpur, Aug 17 (PTI) A man who allegedly sexually assaulted his 19-year-old daughter for two years and later killed her was arrested here, police said on Saturday.

He was arrested on Friday following the complaint by the woman's elder sister, they said.

Police said the man raped his younger daughter several times in the last two years and killed her by cutting her neck on the night of July 26.

India: Kanpur to have Indian Institute of Skill

Kanpur: Like Ahmedabad and Mumbai, one Indian Institute of Skill (IIS) will be opened here. This will cover the whole of the state, said Mahendra Nath Pandey, union minister for Skill development & entrepreneurship at Circuit House here on Saturday. 

He stressed that the central government was determined to train the youths with skill development in order to link them with employment.

He pointed out this kind of Institute would train the youths in accordance with the needs of the industrial units. It would run on a baseline of one product, one district.

India: Who crossed limits? Policemen or Advocates

KANPUR: Does it not look odd if the policemen exchange blows with the advocates? In Nawabganj police station more than one hundred advocates created ruckus over policemen's misbehaviour with them. They demand action against the policemen who allegedly beat one advocate.

However, the PS  in charge Dilip Bind told that they have submitted an application with an allegation of battering to the advocate. The probe would be initiated after registering the report. The report will be forwarded to the higher officers for action.

India: Roadways bus freeride gives women pain on festival

KANPUR:  Roadways bus freeride for the women on the festival of Rakschhabandhan proved to be an unpleasant dream. They were allowed to travel from Wednesday midnight to Thursday midnight. Not only they had to bear the brunt of scrimmage for a seat but they had to make entry of little children through the windows.

However, Priyam Srivastava, ARM, Jhkarkatti Bus Depot said the buses were sufficient in number. No complaint has been received. A few women passengers had to face trouble due to heavy rush on the day.

India: Good roads help denizens reach home timely

Kanpur: If roads are not in good condition, how can denizens reach home timely? If any civic authority cares to visit on the road straight from Nai Chungi overbridge to the Galla Godam Turn in Jajmau area, the reality can be assessed easily. Potholes and slippery surface of the road present a very terrifying scene. 

Being rainy days the water collects into the small or large-sized fissures on the road. At places, the road has become bumpy owing to its uneven condition. Heavy rains mean waterlogging on the whole length of the road.

India: Gulshan Grover lauds Kanpur traffic system

Kanpur: Attending a programme in the city on Wednesday, the famous Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover lauded the city's present-day improved traffic system here. He said it was not as properly managed a few years ago when he had last visited the city as it looked presently.

Terming the business city as historical, he added that jam on the road was no longer bothering the denizens now. It was a big change now, he added.

India: Waterlogging stalls garbage disposal plant work

KANPUR: So far we used to notice garbage stuffed lanes, spots and defiled places where rainwater enters and creates havoc. But the waterlogging into the garbage disposal plant at Bhau Singh area has created devastation. Pandu river's water has entered the plant thereby stopping the manure making process.

In the absence of proper drainage, the stagnant water causes an unbearable stench to the villagers of Sarai Meeta, Baduapur, Bhau Singh and other adjoining areas. They were facing much trouble in bearing the putrefying garbage stench reac hing their nose.  

India: Court acquits 2 accused of robbery during Muzaffarnagar riots

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 14 (PTI) A court here acquitted two people accused of robbery during the 2013 communal riots in Muzaffarnagar district, saying the prosecution failed to prove they were guilty.

Additional District Sessions Judge Punam Rajput on Tuesday acquitted Vinod and Jitendra due to lack of evidence. Rajput said the prosecution could not prove their guilt.

India: Demolition of Dalit temple reflects "casteist mentality"

Lucknow Aug 14 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Wednesday alleged that the demolition of the Ravidas temple in Delhi's Tughlaqabad area was a result of a collusion between the Centre and Delhi government and reflected a "casteist mentality".

She also demanded that the temple be reconstructed.
