India: Three govt offices in UP fined for breeding mosquitoes

Noida (UP), Aug 14 (PTI) Three government offices here have been penalised for not maintaining proper cleanliness leading to breeding of mosquitoes on their premises, according to District Health Department officials.

The penalty has been imposed on City Magistrate office in Sector 19, local election office in Sector 18 and the district Transport office in Sector 34, the officials said.

Int'l cricket matches to be held by year's end at Green Park

Kanpur: By the year's end there will be an international match at Green Park, said the UP sports minister Chetan Chauhan. He disclosed this point while inaugurating the Yoga centre, shooting range, and astroturf at the stadium. 

The cricket lovers of the city have not enjoyed international cricket matches for a long time. They were expecting that whatever hurdles were there, it would be sorted out as soon as possible. It was only then the cricket fans would find time to enjoy the foreign cricketers at the stadium.

India: 7 cases against UP BJP MLA to be withdrawn

Meerut, Aug 13; GANASHAKTI: The Yogi Adityanath government is preparing to withdraw seven cases registered against Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Sangeet Som.

According to sources, these cases were registered against Som between 2013 and 2017 in Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Meerut and Gautam Buddh Nagar.

These include the case in Muzaffarnagar during the 2013 riots, violation of Section 144 in Saharanpur and Gautam Buddh Nagar and taking out a procession in Sardhana, Som's parliamentary constituency.

India: 17-yr-old girl raped in UP village

Ballia, Aug 12 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth of her village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said Monday.

The girl's sister in her complaint, which was lodged on Saturday, said the youth raped the 17-year-old when she was alone at her house, they said.

Police said the youth thrashed the victim and threatened to kill her if she reported the matter.

India: Mayawati demands withdrawal of CBSE fee hike for exams

Lucknow Aug 13 (PTI) BSP President Mayawati on Tuesday termed the fee hike by the CBSE for Class 10 and 12 examinations as unfortunate and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

The BSP president said SC/ST students will now have to pay a higher fees.

"Similarly, the fee for general category students has also been doubled. This is a very unfortunate, racist and anti-poor decision. CBSE should take it back immediately. This is the demand of BSP," she said on Twitter.

India: Sacrificial goats sell at high rate in Jajmau

KANPUR: Every goat has its day. As the festival of Eid-ul-Azha approaches, the goat sellers begin to eye on profits. Every sahab-i-nisab Muslim has to offer a sacrifice of a goat, though other permitted animals are also allowed for this religious obligation. 

Various spots are fixed for the gathering of the goat sellers in the city areas but the tannery town famous as Jajmau has one spot where the goat sellers converge. This place is known as Nai Chungi.

India: Hope revives for Track diversion from Mandhna to Panki

KANPUR: The frequent jam at the railways' crossings from Anwarganj to Mandhna remains a big nuisance for the denizens. To deal with this situation a proposal to divert the track from Mandhna and connect it with Panki railway station has been suggested. In this regard, the divisional commissioner has sent a letter to the North Central Railways and Eastern Railways General Managers respectively.

India: Mobile phone causes altercation between couples

KANPUR: A mobile can also be the cause of the separation between the husband and the wife. Though they were blessed with one son and one daughter, they were not living together. Irritated with wife's chat on WhatsApp and Facebook the husband warned her to leave excessive love for chatting. But the wife's habit did not change. This caused them to stay separately for eight months. 

India: Teacher held for molesting girl student in UP school

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 8 (PTI) A private school teacher was arrested here on Thursday for allegedly molesting a class 8 girl student on the institute premises, police said.

According to reports, the 13-year-old student told her mother about a school teacher who touched her inappropriately in the classroom.

The girl also alleged that the teacher scolded her and made her sit on the same place in the classroom when she tried to shift, they said.

india: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in UP

Banda (UP), Aug 9 (PTI) A 60-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide in Singhpur village in Bisanda here after failing to repay his loans, police said on Friday.

Rambhavan hanged from a tree in his field on Thursday night, they said.

The family members of the farmer said he was upset as he could not repay over Rs 1 lakh loan he had taken from a bank and Rs 1.25 lakh borrowed from local lenders.

Police said the body has been sent for post-mortem and the matter is being probed.
