India: Villagers assaulted for dancing on BJP's poll theme tunes

Kanpur: A few villagers dancing to celebrate the BJP victory in just-concluded assembly elections were mercilessly assaulted by a group of people in Kanpur Dehat district.

Their folly as reported was that they were swaggering to the tunes of election campaign songs of the BJP.

What reports hinted was that the incident took place at Nyora Mastpur village.

A complaint has been filed at the Rasulabad police station of the district.

India: Delayed justice turns meaningless: HC CJ Bindal

Mathura, Mar 12 (PTI) Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal of the Allahabad High Court here on Saturday sought to drive home the malady of delayed justice, recalling an incident in which a man refused to take the compensation 25 years after the death of his son in a road accident and asked the court to keep the money.

Justice Bindal narrated the incident while inaugurating the holding of Lok Adalat here and said, Delayed relief often turns meaningless.

India: UP polls; Victory margin less than 5,000 in 49 seats

Lucknow, Mar 12 (PTI) The victory margin of 49 candidates was less than 5,000 votes in the recently-concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

According to the results announced on Thursday, 25 Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates were defeated by less than 5,000 votes while a similar fate awaited three nominees of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

The SP and the RLD contested the polls in an alliance.

India: Man held for raping six-year-old in UP

Bareilly, Mar 12 (PTI) A man was arrested following an exchange of fire on Saturday in connection with the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl, police said here.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said a case has been registered against the 22-year-old accused under the IPC and POCSO Act.

Police said on Friday the girl went to a stationery shop to buy a notepad at 2.30 pm.

When she did not return home, her grandmother started searching for her.

India: Azam Khan gets bail in job scam case

Lucknow, Mar 11 (PTI) The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to former UP minister Azam Khan in a case relating to a Jal Nigam recruitment scam.

Passing the order, the court observed that the counsel representing the state government failed to point out any clinching evidence against Khan.

The state counsel also could not show that Khan committed any misappropriation or financial irregularity, the court added.

India: UP CM Yogi Adityanath submits resignation to governor

Lucknow, Mar 11 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday met Governor Anandiben Patel at the Raj Bhavan here and handed over his resignation to her, paving the way for the formation of the new government.

The governor accepted Adityanath's resignation and requested him to continue as the caretaker chief minister along with his cabinet till further arrangements are made, according to an official release issued by the Raj Bhavan.

India: Ex-top cop and BJP candidate Asim Arun wins from Kannauj

Lucknow, Mar 10 (PTI) Asim Arun, who had quit the Indian Police Service (IPS) and joined the BJP, won from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj assembly constituency on Thursday, according to official results.

Making his electoral debut, the former Kanpur police commissioner has dented Kannauj, which was known as a Samajwadi Party bastion.

Arun got over 1.20 lakh votes (or 44.53 per cent) defeating nearest rival Samajwadi Party's Anil Kumar Doharey by a margin of 6,090 votes, the Election Commission website showed.

India: Bulldozer lifts City Mayor to celebrate party's victory

Kanpur: Quite popular City Mayor and BJP leader Pramila Pandey climbed on a bulldozer to celebrate BJP's grand success in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Several reacted that it remained a novel way of celebrating the party's victory in the election.

She was so overwhelmed with the BJP's win that she ascended on the vacant space of the bulldozer.

Many wanted to know whether the bulldozer came to be known as a political machine or vehicle from now onwards.

India: Muslims also voted for BJP in UP, claims RSS affiliate

New Delhi, Mar 10 (PTI) The RSS-linked Muslim Rashtriya Manch hailed the BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, saying people of the state rejected the "negative politics" of the opposition parties and reposed their faith in "Modi-Yogi style of governance".

It also claimed that more than eight per cent of the Muslim votes went to the kitty of the BJP.

India: 11 UP ministers fail to win their seats

Lucknow, Mar 11 (PTI) As many as 11 ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government failed to win in the 2022 assembly elections, despite the BJP registering an impressive victory.

According to the Election Commission website, of the 402 seats the result of which were declared, BJP won 255. Its alliance partners Apna Dal (Sonelal) bagged 12 and NISHAD Party six.
