India: IIT-K & OFM develop first soft recovery system for swift projectiles

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and the Ordnance Factory Medak, Telangana, a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, developed India's first soft recovery system for supersonic projectiles.

This recovery system can stop a 30mm supersonic projectile moving at Mach 3 - three times the speed of sound - at a distance of nearly 50 meters.

According to a release, the technology has been developed under leadership of Nachiketa Tiwari of IIT-K and Alok Prasad, General Manager of Ordnance Factory MedaK.

India: IT teams conduct raid at Kanpur's neurosurgeon house

Kanpur: Income Tax sleuths on early Friday morning conducted raids at the residence of a neurosurgeon and his hospital here, sources said.

According to the news, IT department teams of reached hospital at Kakadeo area. The neurosurgeon Dr Raghavendra Gupta works at this hospital. The teams also arrived at his residence in Swaroop Nagar locality, as reported.

Dr Gupta is also a Professor at Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College here.

India: Kanpur IIT working to develop big data search engine to help policing

Kanpur: The IIT Centre of Excellence (CoE)  has developed the Lucknow-based Future Crime Research Foundation.

It is working to develop a first-of-its-kind AlI-powered big data search engine to aid policing.

The search engine, according to officials, intends to make the investigation and policing process more efficient.

It will integrate data from all the key stakeholders to create a search engine that will help in predictive policing, crime mapping and analysis apart from the other services, they said.

India: Irate relatives of deceased lineman call for strict action

Kanpur: A lineman got electrocuted nearly a week ago (February 27). He reportedly succumbs to his injuries on Wednesday.

 A video statement was given before his death and accused his seniors of keeping the line running on the electricity pole even after convincing him of carrying a shutdown

The relatives of the deceased have accused the officers of putting the lineman on the front of the casualty.

Lakhan Dwivedi, who lived in the Barra area, was a lineman in the electricity department. On February 27, his engineers had mounted him on a pole to fix a fault.

India: Kanpur DM clarifies alleged EVM tampering matter

Kanpur: Taking cognizance of the alleged EVM tampering matter, Kanpur Nagar DM issued a clarification.

He said, "On 1 March, two persons tried to enter the outer wall of the Bilhaur Strong room, who were caught by the CRPF personnel and handed over to the local police for questioning."

"The security incharge then wanted to check the footage from the CCTV operator, who was then present with the CRPF personnel to show him the footage," the DM said.

India: SP candidate alleges tampering with EVMs in Kanpur

Kanpur: Rachna Singh, Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Bilhaur assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh has levelled allegation that an unidentified person was tampering with EVMs kept at Galla Mandi in Kanpur City.

A complaint has been lodged in this regard after CCTV footage purportedly showing a man frequently going inside the strongroom and coming out of it.

The Assembly polls had been conducted on all the seats in Kanpur district on February 20. 

The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were stored at the Galla Mandi strongroom for counting on March 10.

India: Youth murdered, body burnt, dumped at Delhi-Kanpur road

Kanpur: An unknown youngster was brutally murdered and his corpse was set on fire. It was reportedly dumped on the side of the Delhi-Kanpur highway.

The incident took place at around 10 p.m. on February 28. The body was set ablaze to erase his identity.

Upon seeing the fire on the side of the Highway, passersby informed the police.

The incident happened near the Yashoda nagar crossroad in the Naubasta area.

After setting the body on fire to hide his identity, the killers fled from the scene.

India: BJP hatching conspiracy to end reservation: Akhilesh

Ambedkarnagar (UP), Feb 28 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday claimed the BJP is hatching a conspiracy to end reservation and hence, is selling government organisations to the private sector.

Addressing an election meeting in the Jalalpur assembly constituency, Yadav said his party will win all the seats of Ambedkarnagar as well as of neighbouring Azamgarh district in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

"The BJP is hatching a conspiracy to end reservation, and hence it is selling government organisations to the private sector," he said.
