India: RBI cancels license of Kanpur-based People's Cooperative Bank Ltd

Kanpur: The Reserve Bank of India said it has cancelled the license of Kanpur-based People's Co-operative Bank Limited on Monday.

The reason is that the bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.

The Reserve Bank of India vide order dated March 17, 2022, has cancelled the license of People's Co-operative Bank Limited, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Accordingly, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on March 21, 2022.

India: Cut-outs of langoor led monkeys to leave Kanpur Central station

Kanpur: What a novel way to shoo away the monkey menace on the Central  railways station! It was conceived by deputy CTM Shashank Sekhar Upadhaya. The cut out of the langoor with a voice device has been placed at different places around the station area. It worked adequately. 

There were reportedly complaints galore over this kind of menace. Sometimes even the monkeys injured the passengers.

India: Police assaulted by villagers after being called for enquiry

Kanpur: In a bizarre incident, a bunch of people attacked and assaulted policemen gone for questioning in a village area here. 

The police received a clue about a fight in the area and reached there to examine the matter when they were attacked.

While a case has been filed against 27 people, one of them has been arrested.

The accused not only assaulted the police but also took them as hostages.

As soon as the police team received the information, they reached the spot and rescued the captured cops.

India: Girl drowns, two missing taking baths in Holy Ganga at Kanpur

Kanpur: An eleven-year-old girl drowned and two men went missing while bathing in River Ganga in Maharajpur area here. Three other minors were rescued, police said on Sunday.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force and divers from the Provincial Armed Constabulary have been pressed into service to trace and rescue the missing youths, they said.

Expressing grief over the incident, Uttar Pradesh caretaker Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked senior officials to attend to the rescue operations personally and ensure adequate medical treatment to those rescued. 

India: No penal provision to make political parties liable for non-fulfilment of promises: HC

Allahabad, Mar 17 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has observed that there is no penal provision to hold political parties accountable if they fail to fulfil promises made in their election manifestoes.

The court clarified that a political party as a whole can't be made liable under the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951 for adopting corrupt practices of the election.

India: Two held for firing gunshots during a dispute in Kanpur

Kanpur: Two people were arrested for firing shots during a dispute. A youth was injured in Bania Purwa in the Nawabganj police station area here.

The injured youth was admitted to Hallet emergency hospital for necessary treatment.

The brother of the injured who reached the hospital after knowing about the incident, said that his brother went out to meet his friends.

He was confronted by some people and had a scuffle after which he was shot by them.

India: Relief in Covid guidelines enforces in UP districts

Kanpur: The relief in Covid guidelines starts across all the districts in the state. Wearing masks, social distancing and sanitisation will still be followed on public places across the state.

According to the order of the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi, swimming pools and water parks can now work at their pre-pandemic capacity.

The state administration has done away with all the restrictions.

Notably, gyms, swimming pools and water parks were shut down in the state due to the insurrection of the third wave of coronavirus in January.

Section 144 to continue up to April 12 in Kanpur Nagar

Kanpur: In view of the festivals and Board exams the district administration has imposed Section 144 in the district.

According to the information, this will remain effective up to April 12.

Maintaining law and order remain the priority of the administration which aims to complete festivities amid a peaceful atmosphere.

Dharna, rallies and demonstrations will remain restricted till the date. Strict orders have been issued to maintain vigil.

Though the festival of Holi is just round the corner the Board examinations will proceed till the next month.

India: Man found dead on railway track in Kanpur

Kanpur: The dead body of a man was found in a forest area of a railway ground here. The incident took place at Nirala Nagar Railway Ground of the Govind Nagar area.

On getting the information from locals, a team of police reached the spot.

The upper part of the carcass was eaten by animals and the police found a mobile phone in the pocket of the deceased.

The man was identified as Kallu, 32, and was a resident of Jajmau.

He used to work as a labourer here and was living with his wife Soni, two daughters and a son.
