Qatar’s Emir Arrives In Saudi Arabia For Official Visit

RIYADH, May 11 (NNN-SPA) – Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived yesterday evening in Saudi Arabia, for an official visit.

The Emir was received by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud invited Qatar’s Emir to visit Saudi Arabia last month.

Iraq reinforces security presence at Iran consulate in Karbala

11 May 2021; MEMO: The Iraqi Ministry of Interior yesterday deployed security reinforcements and imposed a security cordon around the Iranian consulate building in Karbala, in the south of the country.

The Iraqi army commander in Karbala, Ali Al-Hashemi, told reporters: "The Iranian consulate is completely surrounded by emergency regiments, and the situation in Karbala is completely under control."

Iraq formally asks to buy $350m Exxon oilfield share

11 May 2021; MEMO: Iraq has formally asked to buy US energy giant ExxonMobil's share in one of Iraq's biggest oilfields, West Qurna 1, the head of the state-run oil operating company said on Monday, Reuters reported.

Iraq said last month that Exxon was seeking to sell its 32.7% stake in West Qurna 1, and that the oil ministry had started discussions over a possible purchase.

4 Libya tribes demand gov't release political detainees

11 May 2021; MEMO: A tribal committee in Libya called on the government of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to release political detainees who have already received judicial release notices.

The committee, speaking on behalf of the Warfalla, Qadhadhfa, Magarha, and Awlad Suleiman tribes, called on the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) to fulfil its obligations regarding the reconciliation law.

Netanyahu ordered Al-Aqsa attack to secure his position: Ex-Jerusalem sheikh

11 May 2021; MEMO: Former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the brutal attack on Al-Aqsa to satisfy Jewish settlers and secure his position as premier.

In remarks to Anadolu, Sheikh Sabri said yesterday that Israeli occupation forces attacked Al-Aqsa Mosque, upon orders from Netanyahu, to satisfy the settlers, so that he would remain in the position of prime minister.

Palestinian priest calls on Christians to help defend Al-Aqsa

11 May 2021; MEMO: Father Manuel Musallam, head of the World Popular Organisation for Jerusalem Justice and Peace, yesterday called on Palestinian Christians to "donate to support Al-Aqsa Mosque" in Occupied Jerusalem.

"I repeat my call to the honourable clergy, the patriarchs, bishops, and priests to shoulder their responsibilities and strongly stand in the face of the occupation and its crimes," Musallam said in a statement.

Egypt: Suez Canal chief says southern stretch to be expanded

(Reuters) --- The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) plans to expand and deepen the southern stretch of the waterway where a container ship became jammed and blocked traffic for six days in March, Chairman Osama Rabie said in a televised address on Tuesday.

Rabie presented the plan at an event attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who indicated that the project should be completed in 24 months at most.

Iran rejects US claim that speedboats sparked encounter

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard on Tuesday rejected the U.S. Navy’s claim that fast-approaching Iranian speedboats in the Strait of Hormuz sparked a tense encounter in the already sensitive region.

The Guard’s website, sepahnews.com, published a statement Tuesday saying Americans were guilty of using “false narratives and unprofessional behavior” and should more strictly “abide by international regulations.” Specifically, the statement said the Guard’s navy warned the U.S. vessels to stop their “provocative and aimless shooting.”
