Iran frees South Korean ship it held amid dispute over funds

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A South Korean oil tanker held for months by Iran amid a dispute over billions of dollars held in Seoul was freed and sailed away early Friday, just hours ahead of further talks between Tehran and world powers over its tattered nuclear deal.

Egyptian FM Visits Lebanon To Show Support

BEIRUT, Apr 8 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, received a message of support from his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, conveyed to him by Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, in which he affirmed Egypt’s “solidarity with Lebanon and its support for efforts to form a new government.”

This came in a statement, issued by Lebanon’s Presidency, following Shoukry’s meeting with Aoun at the Baabda Palace.

60 Daesh Militants Killed In Airstrikes In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Apr 8 (NNN-NINA) – A total of 60 militants of the Daesh group were killed, in airstrikes in a mountainous area, in Salahudin province, north of Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, the Iraqi military said.

Iraqi aircraft, in coordination with Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), conducted airstrikes on Daesh hideouts, on Mar 25, in Himreen mountain range, leaving 60 militants killed, Yahia Rasoul, spokesman of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi forces, said, in a statement.

Iran increases its uranium reserves enriched up to 20%

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: Iran has made 55 kilogrammes of uranium enriched to up to 20 per cent, indicating quicker production than the ten kilogramme a month rate required by an Iranian law that created the process in January, local media reported yesterday.

Iran has the capability to enrich uranium from 40 per cent to 60 per cent, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Agency of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said, according to the Fars News Agency.

Iran confirms attack on its ship in Red Sea

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: An Iranian civilian ship, the Saviz, was attacked in the Red Sea on Tuesday resulted in "minor" damage to the vessel, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said yesterday.

"The explosion occurred at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday near the Djibouti coast and caused minor damage with no casualties," Khatibzadeh said in a statement, adding that "the vessel was a civilian ship stationed there to secure the region against pirates."

Lebanon, Syria discuss demarcation of maritime borders

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: Lebanese President Michel Aoun held a phone conversation with Syria's Bashar Al-Assad to discuss the demarcation of the Lebanon-Syria maritime borders, Anadolu reported yesterday.

According to Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe, Aoun confirmed that "Lebanon will not accept to diminish from its sovereignty over its waters."

Israel: Settlers sieze 15 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem's Silwan

08 Apr 2021; MEMO: Jewish settlers siezed 15 Palestinian houses in the occupied East Jerusalem district of Silwan, the Palestinian Information Centre quoted Israel's Channel 7 reporting.

According to the channel, the settlers placed Israeli flags on 15 houses in Silwan after the Ateret Cohanim organisation seized them and handed them to settler families.
