Israel: Likud lawmaker in 'warm meeting' with Ra'am party chief

Kara thanked Abbas for a 'warm meeting' and went on to plead with fellow right-wingers to differentiate between Ra'am and its former parliamentary allies, the predominantly Arab Joint List.

Saudi-led coalition destroys Houthi rigged boats, drones - state media

DUBAI (Reuters) - The Saudi-led coalition battling Yemen’s Houthi forces has destroyed two explosive-laden boats that the Iran-aligned group planned to use in an “imminent” attack launched from the Red Sea port of Hodeidah, Saudi state media reported on Sunday.

The coalition in separate statements also said it intercepted and destroyed three armed drones launched towards southern Saudi Arabia, including the city of Khamis Mushait.

IAF participates in multilateral air exercise in UAE

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) In reflection of its gradual expansion of defence ties with the United Arab Emirates, India participated in a multilateral air exercise in the Gulf nation alongside several other key players, including the US and France, officials said on Saturday.

The sixth edition of the exercise 'Desert Flag-VI' was conducted from March 4 to 27 at Al Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they said.

Cypriot "national cheese" halloumi gets EU's protected status: minister

NICOSIA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Cyprus' "national cheese" halloumi has been recognized by the European Commission as a product of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) after an examination process that lasted more than 15 years, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis said Saturday.

Kadis told CyBC state radio that a formal announcement is expected to be made on Monday by the European Commission, the European Union (EU)'s executive arm.

Egypt, U.S. diplomats discuss efforts to revive talks over Ethiopia's Nile dam

CAIRO, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hamdi Sanad Loza held talks on Saturday with U.S. special envoy for Sudan Donald Booth on efforts to resume negotiations over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) built on the Nile River, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Loza stressed the necessity for reaching "an agreement on filling and operating the GERD at the earliest possible opportunity before Ethiopia begins carrying out the second phase of filling (the dam)," according to the statement.

321 vessels jammed around Suez Canal as salvage of stuck container ship underway

SUEZ, Egypt, March 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 321 vessels are currently jammed around Egypt's Suez Canal awaiting salvage of the giant container ship Ever Given that has been stuck and blocking the vital waterway since Tuesday, Osama Rabie, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), said Saturday.

"The number of ships waiting now, whether in the north, the south or in the Lakes is 321. We provide them with all the logistic services they ask for," the SCA chief told a press conference in the northeastern province of Suez.

Sudan Settles Debts With World Bank

KHARTOUM, Mar 27 (NNN-SUNA) – Sudan settled its debts with the World Bank (WB) after nearly three decades, according to an agreement signed yesterday.

“Today we celebrate the beginning of debt relieving and opening the door to external financing,” said Sudan’s Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, when addressing a celebration held in Khartoum.

“We promise our people and international partners, to press ahead to utilise financing resources, to establish great development projects to achieve social justice,” he added.

China-Donated Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive In Sudan

KHARTOUM, Mar 27 (NNN-XINHUA) – A batch of China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines, donated by the Chinese government to Sudan, arrived here yesterday.

The batch was received at the Khartoum International Airport by Chinese Ambassador to Sudan, Ma Xinmin, Chairman of Sudan’s Higher Committee for Health Emergencies, Siddiq Tawer, and Sudan’s Health Minister, Omer Al-Najeeb.
