Russia’s Checkmate fighter jet to have modified AL-41F1 engine

DUBAI, November 14. /TASS/: The Checkmate one-engine fighter jet will received a modified AL-41F1 engine (Izdelie 117), Mikhail Nikitushkin, designer of Sukhoi Co (incorporated into the United Aircraft Corporation, or UAC, which is part of the Rostec state corporation), said on Sunday.

"The engine is the existing 117 modified for a one-engine plane in terms of reliability," he said.

UAE: Production of several Checkmate prototypes launched in Komsomolsk - UAC

DUBAI, November 14. /TASS/: The production of several prototypes of Checkmate fighter jets has been launched in Russia’s Far Eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Yuri Slyusar, CEO of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, incorporated in Rostec), said on Sunday.

"Works on the production of several prototype jets have kicked off in Komsomolsk simultaneously," he said.

Morocco Tightens Border To Curb COVID-19 Pandemic

RABAT, Nov 14 (NNN-MAP) – Morocco announced yesterday, to strengthen the control measures for access to its territory, as part of efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

A mandatory health pass and negative PCR test will be required for international travellers, as well as, a double-check by thermal cameras, and antigen tests will be conducted upon arrival in Morocco, said an official statement, published by the Moroccan official news agency.

Tunisian protesters try to march on suspended parliament

TUNIS, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Thousands of Tunisians protesting against President Kais Saied's seizure of political power four months ago tried to march on the suspended parliament on Sunday, as hundreds of police blocked off the area.

Protesters briefly clashed with police as they tried to remove barriers near the chamber and demanded that Saied restore parliament and normal democratic rule.

"We will not accept a new dictator... we will not back down," said Foued Ben Salem, a protester, raising Tunisia's red-and-white national flag.

6.4-magnitude quake rocks coast of southern Iran

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 shook the Iranian town of Laft off the coast in the south of the country on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the shock took place at 15:36 p.m. local time (1206 GMT) at a latitude of 26.8 degrees north and a longitude of 55.9 degrees east, and at a depth of 18 km.

Drone strike kills 3 allegedly linked to al-Qaida in Yemen: source

ADEN, Yemen, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Three people suspected of being members of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch were killed by an airstrike in Yemen on Sunday, a military official told Xinhua.

"Missiles fired by a U.S. drone struck a traveling vehicle passing on road between the provinces of al-Bayda and Shabwa in the country's southern part," the local military source said on condition of anonymity.

The airstrike resulted in killing three people suspected of belonging to the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch and injuring two others including a woman at the scene, he said.

Lebanon municipality imposes wage limit, curfew on Syrian refugees

14 Nov 2021; MEMO: A Lebanese municipality has imposed a series of measures on Syrian refugees, including a night curfew and a limit on the hours they work and wages they earn daily.

The municipality of Ras Baalbeck issued an order this week that male Syrian workers must not be paid more than 40,000 Lebanese liras per day and can only work from 8AM till 3PM. Female workers are also limited to an hourly wage of 10,000 Lebanese liras.

Indian Army Chief Gen Naravane leaves for Israel on 5-day visit

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) Army Chief General MM Naravane on Sunday left for Israel on a five-day visit to further strengthen India's defence and security cooperation with the Jewish state.

The visit by the Army chief comes weeks after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar travelled to Israel to explore ways to boost strategic ties.

In August, then air chief marshal R K S Bhadauria had also travelled to Israel.

Gadhafi’s son announces candidacy for president of Libya

CAIRO (AP) — The son and one-time heir apparent of late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi announced Sunday his candidacy for the country’s presidential election next month, Libya’s election agency said.

Seif al-Islam submitted his candidacy papers in the southern town of Sabah, the agency said in a statement.

Gadhafi’s son was captured by fighters late in 2011, the year when a popular uprising toppled Gadhafi after more than 40 years in power. Moammar Gadhafi was later killed amid the ensuing fighting that would turn into a civil war.

Al-Jazeera says bureau chief detained by Sudanese forces

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — The Qatar-based satellite news network Al-Jazeera said Sunday its bureau chief in Sudan was detained by security forces, a day after mass protests across the country against last month’s military coup.

The network said on Twitter that Sudanese forces raided the home of al-Musallami al-Kabbashi and detained him.
