UN Chief Visits Rafah Crossing As Aid Convoy Waits To Enter Gaza

RAFAH, Egypt, Oct 21 (NNN-MENA) – UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, yesterday visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, ahead of the anticipated opening of the crossing, to bring needed aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

At the Rafah crossing, the only crossing point between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, Guterres said, the large convoy, loaded with food and medicine was “the difference between life and death for the (Palestinian) people.”

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt and Jordan harshly criticized Israel over its actions in Gaza at a summit on Saturday, a sign that the two Western allies that made peace with Israel decades ago are losing patience with its two-week-old war against Hamas.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, who hosted the summit, again rejected any talk of driving Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians into the Sinai Peninsula and warned against the “liquidation of the Palestinian cause.” Jordan’s King Abdullah II called Israel’s siege and bombardment of Gaza “a war crime.”

Death toll of Israeli strikes at Gaza Strip exceeds 3,700 — Health Ministry

CAIRO, October 19. /TASS/: The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks since the beginning of another round of escalation has exceeded 3,700 people, with over 12,000 people injured, the Gaza Health Ministry said.

"A total of 3,785 killed and 12,493 injured in the continued Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip," the Ministry said.

Egyptian president reaffirms support for Palestinians, rejects Sinai relocation amid Gaza conflict

CAIRO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi expressed Wednesday Egypt's firm support for the Palestinian people and a strong opposition to any attempts to relocate them to the adjacent Sinai Peninsula.

In a joint press conference with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Cairo, Sisi said "we reject the displacement of Palestinians from their land" and expressed concerns that the current escalations in the Gaza Strip are "bids to force Palestinians to seek to enter Egypt's Sinai."

Relief aid trucks start moving from Al Arish toward Rafah crossing: Egyptian Red Crescent

16 October 2023; AA: The Egyptian Red Crescent said that aid trucks have started moving from Egypt’s Al Arish toward the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.

In a statement to Anadolu on Monday morning, Khaled Zaid, the director of the Egyptian Red Crescent in North Sinai, said: "Aid trucks have begun to be dispatched to the Rafah border."

The trucks contain food supplies and medical equipment, he said.

Turkish foreign minister meets with Arab League head in Cairo

14 October 2023; MEMO: Turkiye’s foreign minister on Saturday met with the Arab League head in Cairo during his visit to Egypt, Anadolu reports.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, in Cairo,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on X.

Fidan is on two-day official visit to Cairo at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.

Egypt reinforces Gaza border with concrete barriers as it ‘indefinitely’ closes Rafah crossing

15 October 2023; MEMO: Egypt is continuing to keep its border with the Gaza Strip closed to Palestinians attempting to flee the Israeli bombardment of the territory, completing the construction of its concrete wall in the process.

Since the start of the Israeli aerial assault on Gaza which began after an offensive operation by the Palestinian resistance group last Saturday, Egypt closed its Rafah border crossing with the strip as many of its residents fled to the south of the besieged territory.

Egypt rejects displacement of Palestinians from Gaza

16 October 2023; MEMO: The Egyptian National Security Council, headed by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, yesterday decided to continue contacts with international and regional partners in pursuit of de-escalation and to stop the targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting headed by Al-Sisi, the council discussed the regional situation and the military escalation in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt: Blinken to extend Middle East tour, return to Israel on Monday

CAIRO, Oct 15 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will return to Israel on Monday, a senior State Department official said, extending his Middle East shuttle diplomacy by a day as Israel prepares for a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip and the United States works to stop the conflict from spreading.

Israel has vowed to annihilate the militant group Hamas in retaliation for a rampage by its fighters in Israeli towns eight days ago in which its militants shot men, women and children and seized hostages in the worst attack on civilians in the country's history.
