Israel orders Palestinian families to stop building homes

20 May 2022; MEMO: The Israeli occupation authorities yesterday issued stop work orders for the homes being built by a group of Palestinians in the Artas villages in southern Bethlehem district, Wafa has reported.

According to the director of the Bethlehem office of the Wall and Settlements Resistance Commission, Hassan Breijeh, armed officers handed six families notices ordering them to halt construction work on their houses, which are still in the initial building stage.

Israel arrests pallbearer beaten at journalist's funeral

18 May 2022; MEMO: Israeli police have arrested one of the Palestinian pallbearers beaten by officers at the funeral of slain Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, the detained man's lawyer said on Wednesday, and Reuters reports.

A police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of Amro Abu Khdair, but said it was not connected to Friday's funeral. He declined to give the reason for the man's arrest.

A rare £100 Palestine banknote sold for $170,000

19 May 2022; MEMO: A rare £100 Palestine banknote discovered in a charity shop in the UK has sold for £140,000 ($174,000).

During the British Mandate of Palestine in 1927, the note was issued to high-ranking officials.

Paul Wyman, an Oxfam volunteer, spotted the unusual note in a box of items donated to the charity's Brentwood branch in Essex, according to the Independent.

Palestinian Authority official in Russia for talks

17 May 2022; MEMO: Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) Executive Committee member Hussein Al-Sheikh arrived in the Russian capital Moscow for talks yesterday.

Fatah leader, Abdullah Abdullah, told Al-Watan Voice that the talks would focus on the "Palestinian reconciliation file, especially after Hamas officials' recent visit to Russia."

Israeli extremist calls for demolition of Dome of the Rock

17 May 2022; MEMO: The leader of Israeli extremist group Lehava has called for illegal settlers taking part in the annual so-called "flag march" later this month to mark the occupation of East Jerusalem by demolishing the Dome of the Rock, Safa reported on Tuesday. Palestinians demonstrate in Gaza, West Bank to mark 74th anniversary of Nakba Day

GAZA/RAMALLAH, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Palestinians demonstrated on Sunday in the West Bank city of Ramallah, marking the 74th anniversary of Nakba Day, or "Day of the Catastrophe," the day after Israel declared its independence in 1948.

The Ramallah-based Palestinians took part in a demonstration invited by the Supreme National Committee to commemorate the Nakba of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), while mourning whistles sounded for 74 seconds, referring to the number of years of displacement of Palestinians.
