Crew of 13 Indians rescued from burning ship in UAE

Dubai, May 8 (PTI) Thirteen Indians onboard a burning cargo ship were rescued Wednesday by a team of quick-acting firefighters at Khalid Port in Sharjah.

The vessel was loaded with 6,000 gallons of diesel, 120 exported vehicles and 300 vehicle tyres - all of which were gutted in the massive blaze.

No casualties have been reported as the firefighters reached the site immediately and evacuated the crew members in time, Col Sami Al Naqbi, director-general of Sharjah Civil Defence was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.

Russian, Syrian servicemen hold WWII Victory Parade at Hmeymim airbase

India: 55-year-old property dealer murdered in Naubasta

Kanpur: One old person was murdered in a house of Raman Vihar under Naubasta police station here on Thursday morning. On getting information the police and the forensic team reached the spot. The Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev Tiwari and SP (South) Raveena Tyagi were also present on the spot.  Evidence was collected and cause of crime was also tried to find out. 

55-year-old property dealer Prahlad r/o Naubasta Lalpur was alone at his house as the wife Siyapyari was away at Gauriya village in Bakewar Fatehpur to attend uncle's terahwi. He was issueless. 

Maulvi booked for hitting minor girl with belt in Noida

Noida, May 8 (PTI) A religious teacher was Wednesday booked for allegedly thrashing a six-year-old girl with a belt at a madrassa in sector 115 here, police said.

A complaint was lodged at the sector 49 police station here against maulvi Ladak Hussain by the minor girl's father, a resident of sector 73, they said.

"The six-year-old girl was enrolled at the madrassa in sector 115. When I went to meet her recently, I found she had bruises from a belt on her back. She told me that she was brutally beaten by the maulvi," the complainant alleged.

World Ports Conference opens in Guangzhou

GUANGZHOU, May 8 (Xinhua): The 2019 World Ports Conference opened Wednesday in Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province, as port industry leaders gather to discuss common challenges and opportunities.

The conference, organized by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), will see over 1,000 representatives from more than 50 countries.

Putin lays wreath at Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Moscow

The Russian leader walked to the Alexander Garden after the Victory Parade ended in Moscow’s Red Square and after he talked briefly actually with each of the war veterans.

Prevention, early treatment needed to fight thalassemia: health authorities

GUANGZHOU, May 8 (Xinhua): Premarital and pre-pregnancy prevention, antenatal prevention as well as early diagnosis and treatment are needed in fighting thalassemia, as the disease is preventable despite its difficulty to treat, health authorities said Wednesday.

Thalassemia are inherited blood disorders characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production. Symptoms can vary from none to severe; often there is mild to severe anemia or low red blood cells.

Indo-French navies begin sea phase of 'Varuna' exercise

Panaji, May 8 (PTI) The sea phase of the Indo-French naval exercise 'Varuna' began on Wednesday with ships from the European country sailing out of the Goa harbour to participate in it, the Indian Navy said.

This year's edition of the Indo-French naval exercise currently underway off the Goa coast is the largest ever undertaken by the two navies and represents the climax of the strengthened maritime co-operation between India and France, a senior official earlier said.

Putin congratulates Israeli leadership with 71st independence anniversary

18 injured after Bangladeshi plane skids off runway at Myanmar's airport

YANGON, May 8 (Xinhua): Some 18 people including five crew members were injured after a passenger plane of the Biman Bangladesh airlines skidded off the runway at Myanmar's Yangon International Airport (YIA) on Wednesday, said the Department of Civil Aviation Myanmar.

The Biman Flight No. BG-60 from Dhaka to Yangon carrying 28 passengers and six crew members skidded off the runway at around 6:50 p.m. local time (1220 GMT).

Rescuers find body of fourth tourist who died in Altai mountain avalanche

MOSCOW, May 9. /TASS/. Rescuers have found the body of the fourth tourist out of seven people who had died in an avalanche in the Altai Mountains in West Siberia, the Investigative Committee’s local branch told TASS on Thursday.

"The body of the fourth dead tourist has been found. It has not yet been delivered to Gorno-Altaisk for identification," the investigators said.

The bodies of three tourists found earlier have been identified, the investigators said.
