India: 28 killed in rain-related incidents in UP

Lucknow (UP) Mar 13 (PTI) A total of 28 people, including women and children, were killed in various rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.

The state has been witnessing rain and thunderstorms since Thursday.

"In Uttar Pradesh, 28 people have died in incidents related to rain and hailstorm in the past 24 hours," Information Department Director Shishir said here.

India: Teenage girl raped by two youth in UP's Mahoba

Banda (UP), Mar 14 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men in neighbouring Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Thursday but the case was reported in Mataundh police station of Banda district by the girl's family only on Friday.

Sub-Inspector of Mataundh police station Sultan Singh said, "Two youth raped the 17-year-old girl on the pretext of taking her to a nearby jungle. This incident took place on Thursday around 5 pm in Khanna police station area of Mahoba district."

Corona: AMU suspends all classes till March 22

Aligarh, Mar 14 (PTI) The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Saturday suspended all classes, including sessional tests, till March 22 as a precautionary measure in view of novel coronavirus threat.

"During a special meeting of top university officials presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor, it was decided today that all conferences, workshops, educational tours and sports programmes have been postponed till March 31," AMU spokesperson Omar Peerzada told PTI.

India: Junior students find school holidays speculative

Kanpur: Junior class students were surprised to know of the school holidays declared following the Chief Minister's order on Friday. As they were in preparation for appearing at the paper, the news came as a shock to them. 

The holidays were declared in the wake of the Corona infection spreading fast. So, this step was taken as a precautionary measure.

Lucknow; 14 March 2020 (UMMN): Samajwadi Party has responded with its own posters right next to the UP Government’s “name and shame” hoardings in Lucknow, depicting 53 anti-CAA protesters.

Samajwadi Party’s hoardings carried pictures of BJP leaders and alleged rapists Chinmayanand and Sengar along with the details of their criminal cases, with the message, “Betiyan Rahe Savdhan, Surakshit Rahe Hindustan,”

India: BJP leader, five others arrested in Aligarh over anti-CAA clash

Aligarh (UP), Mar 12 (PTI) BJP leader Vinay Varshney, who was booked in an attempt to murder case during violent clashes in the city over the new citizenship law, was arrested on Thursday.

Varshney was arrested from his residence, police said.

He was booked under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) in connection with an attack on Mohamed Tariq, who was shot at and seriously wounded on February 23, when violence erupted at Upper Kot locality in the city after the police evacuated some anti-CAA women protestors.

India: Weather takes terrible turn on Friday afternoon

KANPUR: Of course, nothing definite can be predicted about the weather.  Today's weather took a strange turn as there was scant showers in the afternoon. At about 2:30 p.m. the clouds have pervaded all over giving impression of rains. 

Though there has been registered increase in the daily temperature, sudden convergence of the clouds surprises the residents in Jajmau area here. 

The dark clouds are supposed to be getting ready to rain fiercely but only sometimes  mild,  sometimes strong vibrating thunder of clouds travel. 

India: Raped girl found dead in UP's Mainpuri with strangulation marks

Mainpuri (UP), Mar 12 (PTI) A girl was found dead with strangulation marks in a village under Dannahar police station limits here, police said on Thursday.

The girl had gone missing since Monday and her body was spotted by locals in bushes on Tuesday morning, they said.

india: Girls junior football title fight suspends due to Covid-19

Kanpur: Coronavirus has spread its dangerous wings on the sports events at the regional level also. The inter-regional junior and sub-junior girls football championship slated to be organized at different districts have postponed due to the virus attack.

The junior girl's championship was scheduled to be held between March 14 and March 21 in Barabanki district. While the sub-junior competition was allotted for March 23 to March 30 in Bareilly.

India: Dalit youth shot at in UP's Banda

Banda, Mar 10 (PTI) A Dalit youth sustained injuries after he was shot at Taraya village in the Baberu police station here on Tuesday, an official said.

Circle Officer Baberu Rajiv Pratap Singh said, "Dalit youth Pitu Shrivas (26) on Tuesday had gone to answer nature's call when he was shot at. He sustained injuries. The injured youth was sent to a community health centre from where he was sent to the district hospital for treatment."
