India: No crowd at counter, consumers easily deposit electricity bill

Kanpur: Consumers at the window counter of the power sub-division coming under Jajmau Division felt no annoyance in depositing their respective electricity bills on Thursday afternoon. The reason behind this was straight, no crowd was converged at the concluding days of the month.

Even the consumers' face was brightening with a satisfactory gleam as they were not minding the passing of time to reach the counter. They knew it that there was no need to rush though the weather's icy condition was disturbing them in the queue.

India: Shah's remarks on CAA show intolerance: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Jan 21 (PTI) Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the CAA will not be withdrawn, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said it reflected intolerance as the BJP "wants to crush people with the road roller of its majority".

Lashing out at the BJP, the former UP CM said the saffron party is making "intolerance" as its identity.

India: UP cops caught stealing milk packets

Noida (UP), Jan 21 (PTI) Two police constables were allegedly found stealing packets of milk from outside a kiosk here, prompting disciplinary action against them, officials said on Tuesday.

A constable was purportedly seen in a CCTV footage sneaking out two packets from a milk crate kept outside a kiosk in Phase 2 police station area around 5 am on January 19, the officials said.

The other constable was inside their duty vehicle, which was seen standing next to the milk crates kept on the road outside the kiosk, they said.

India: Heedless officials at Power sub-station in Jajmau irk consumers

Kanpur: Correction in faulty electricity bill at the power sub-station level is difficult for honest consumers. One week is not a long time for the officials entertaining the bills for revision. The consumers only run but the result remains inadequate. 

The meter reader does not mind in preparing the wrong bill for he is supposed to annoy the consumers. The reader has got a habit of issuing a bloated bill as the amount is paid by the hapless consumer.

India: Despite protests, CAA will not be withdrawn: Amit Shah

Lucknow, Jan 21 (PTI) Attacking the opposition for "misleading" people on the Citizenship Amendment Act, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the law will not be scrapped despite the protests over it.

Addressing a rally here in support of the CAA, Shah also declared that construction of a Ram temple touching the skies in Ayodhya will begin within three months.

He said there is no provision in the amended law for taking anyone's citizenship away. A canard is being spread against the CAA by the Congress, SP, BSP, and Trinamool Congress.

India: Monday sunshine brings respite to residents

Kanpur: Monday comes with clear sky thereby giving a bit much respite from phenomenal winter rain. Sun over our head shines brightly and provides the amount of warmness we require amid bad weather. Today's temperature rests at 8 degrees minimum with cloudy sky.

The residents feel quite at ease with the shining sun. They say it is good to get some amount of sunshine. Not one but people are seen standing at the spots where Sunrays are directly falling.

India: Women protest CAA & NRC in Chamanganj park

KANPUR: Protest against much-publicized CAA & NRC at a Park in the city's Chamanganj locality continues from the evening hours and ends at the night since the past several days. Beginning from 4 p.m.everyday it concludes at 9 p.m. As the sit-ins are largely attended by the females, young and old, they do not appear to be hindered from their resolve to protest amid the stringent cold climatic conditions.

Raising their voice against the Citizenship Amendment Act and proposed Nation Register of Citizens they emphasised that biased law was not acceptable to them.

India: Former aide of Yogi Adityanath and chief of Hindu Yuva Vahini joins SP

Lucknow, Jan 18 (PTI) Former chief of Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) Sunil Singh, who was once considered close to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, joined the Samajwadi Party here on Saturday.

Singh joined the SP in the presence of party chief and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Some Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders also joined the SP at the party headquarters here.

Singh's shift of loyalty assumes significance as the HYV was founded by Adityanath in 2002 to promote "Hindutva and nationalism".

India: Cloudy climate to continue up till January 22

Kanpur: After rains appear dark day on Saturday. Gusty winds force the residents indoor while the junior class had attended school amid tough and rough weather in the first month of the new year. Even the public on the road did not dare to move like the normal days.

According to the weather experts, the cloudy conditions will persist until January 22. Today's minimum temperature has been reported as low as 10 degrees Celsius. 

India: Class 9 student rapes 7-yr-old girl in UP

Noida (UP), Jan 16 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Greater Noida by a teenager, who has been apprehended, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place around 7 pm on Wednesday in Jarcha police area when the Class 9 student lured the girl to an isolated spot near her home, the police said.

"Both the accused and victim live in the same neighbourhood and belong to the same caste. After the matter was reported to the police, we apprehended the accused and he has been sent to a juvenile correction home, a police official said.
