Banda (UP) Jan 15 (PTI) A four-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by man at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl was taken to the secluded place by a man named Jagdev Khushwaha (23) and was raped, they said.

The girl later narrated the incident to her family, who lodged an FIR in this connection.

The accused has been arrested, the police added.

Lucknow, Jan 15 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday said there is an atmosphere of fear and tension in the country and accused the BJP and the Congress of indulging in dirty politics.

Speaking to reporters at the BSP office here on her 64th birthday, she said BSP is a disciplined and cadre-based party and only stages peaceful protests after taking permission.

Aligarh, Jan 15 (PTI) The Aligarh Muslim University has sought registration of an FIR against the police for allegedly indulging in excesses after entering a hostel on the night of December 15, officials said on Wednesday.

The move comes a month after violent clashes took place at the AMU.

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told PTI, "The police is yet to register our FIR, although we have filed our complaint."

Lucknow, Jan 15 (PTI) BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday urged the Centre to withdraw the amended citizenship law and seek consensus to bring in a new one, even as she lashed out at both BJP and Congress for being two sides of the same coin .

She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre of not taking others into confidence before bringing in the Citizen Amendment Bill (CAB). That's why, there is an outcry in the country," Mayawati told reporters at a press conference here on her 64th birthday.

Lucknow, Jan 13 (PTI) The state government has started the process to identify refugees for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, said UP minister Shrikant Sharma here on Monday.

"The notification for the CAA (by the Centre) has been issued and all district magistrates in UP have been asked to collect data," Sharma told PTI.

Unnao (UP), Jan 13 (PTI) A doctor who treated the Unnao rape victim's father when he was thrashed in police custody died on Monday after complaining of uneasiness here, official sources said.

Prashant Upadhyaya, 45, was rushed to the hospital after complaining of uneasiness where he died during treatment, they said.

Upadhyay had treated the victim's father in April 2018 after he was brutally thrashed in police custody, they said.

Ballia (UP), Jan 11 (PTI) Three youths have been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said on Saturday.

The girl, who was on a visit to her maternal grandparents' house, had gone out to attend to nature's call on Thursday when the accused allegedly raped her, police said.

Bareilly (UP), Jan 10 (PTI) A local court here on Friday awarded death sentence to two people in connection with a four-year-old rape and murder case.

Umakant (32) and Murari Lal (24) were held guilty of raping and murdering a minor Dalit girl on January 26, 2016 in the Nawabganj area.
