India: Mother throws baby from hospital window in UP

Lucknow, Jul 23 (PTI) A two-month-old baby died after he was thrown from the window of a hospital here on Tuesday by his mother who was apparently depressed about her son being underweight, police said.

The woman, Shanti, gave birth to the boy on May 26 and he weighed only 750 gm. The newborn was admitted in the paediatric surgery department of the King George's Medical University, hospital spokesperson Sandeep Tiwari said.

India: 2 Muslim youths beaten up in UP after being identified

Muzaffarnagar, Jul 24 (PTI) Two youths were admitted to a hospital in Muzaffarnagar district after they were allegedly beaten up by a group of men after identifying them, a police official said Wednesday.

Sajjad and Waris were returning to their homes in Dolatpur village on a motorcycle from another village when they were stopped and told to identify themselves, Kakroli police station SHO Jitender Kumar Ambavat said.

The group of men then thrashed the youths, he said.

Indian Journalist of news channel that irked Yogi gets bail from Allahabad HC

Noida (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) A journalist of a TV news channel, accused of airing defamatory content on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in a fraud and forgery case on Tuesday, his lawyer said.

Anuj Shukla, the managing editor of the Noida-based Nation Live channel, has been given the relief by Justice Ajit Singh, who heard the matter at court number 80 this morning, lawyer Nitin Gupta told PTI.

One patient of Auraiya was getting treatment at the medicine ward of LLR hospital under the Ayushman Yojna.On July 21 he was given permission to go home. He along with his and relative reached the railway station. But his condition began to worsen at the platform so his wife and relative took him to the emergency again.

India: Four booked for raping Dalit girl

Gorakhpur (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) Four people were booked for allegedly raping a Class 12 Dalit girl and making a video of the crime in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, police said Monday.

Citing a complaint lodged by the relatives of the victim, police said the girl had gone to relieve herself on Sunday evening when a villager harassed her.

When she resisted to his advances, two other men raped her. Later, one more person committed the crime and made a video of it.

India: Man held for attempting to rape woman in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Jul 23 (PTI) A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a woman while she was sleeping on the terrace of her house in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday night in the district's Bhopa village, they said.

According to the complaint registered by the woman's husband, she was sleeping on the terrace when their neighbour, Roopesh Kumar, came there and tried to rape her. He fled when she raised an alarm.

India: UP Cops 'thrash' ice-cream vendor for demanding payment

Noida (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) Two Noida police officials allegedly thrashed an ice-cream vendor after he asked them to pay Rs 50 for the dessert they had bought from him, officials said.

A video of the police officials thrashing the vendor is circulating on social media, with officials saying the incident took place on July 13.

The two officials attached to the Barola police post under Sector 49 police station had bought ice creams worth Rs 50 and when the vendor, Amit Kumar (Tinku), asked them for payment, they thrashed him.

India: 1955 revenue records of Sonbhadra disputed land missing

Sonbhadra (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) Investigations into the clash, which left 10 people dead in a Sonbhadra village last week, might face a major hurdle as the 1955 revenue records of the land disputed by the rival parties have been missing.

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had suggested the genesis of the land dispute was laid in 1955, during the Congress rule, and said the committee set up to investigate the shooting incident in Gharowal area of Sonbhadra district will look into this.

India: Will leather business shift from Kanpur to Kolkata?

Kanpur: It was never imagined by the tannery owners that they would think of moving to as far as Kolkata for the survival of the leather business. Gradual but constant fall in the leather trade and long closure of the tanneries compel them to seek a better opportunity of the business in another state. 

It has been reported that as many as 18 leather businessmen have entered into an agreement with the West Bengal government. This investment comes to Rs 400 Crore. The immediate major repercussion of this initiative was that more than one thousand workers would be rendered jobless.
