Indian Polls: BJP legislator beats a presiding officer in Aurai

Lucknow, May 12 (PTI) Over 54 per cent polling was reported till 6 pm in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, an official said...

"In Azamgarh, a presiding officer was removed following complaints by SP workers, and a report has been sought from the district magistrate," state Chief Electoral Officer L Venkateshwarlu said.

The officer said there were complaints about electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPAT devices, and the machines were replaced.

Two die, 6 hurt in truck-Bolero head-on mishap

Kanpur: Head-on collision between truck and Bolero caused death of two and six seriously injured near Afsaria village under Sikandra Police station here on Monday morning. Speeding truck collided with the Bolero stuffed with the people returning from a marriage party. The collision was so fierce as the jeep's body flew into the air. 

This accident halted the traffic on the road. On reaching the spot the police anyhow managed to clear the jam after a little later. 

India: Country-made gun factory unearthed

Kanpur: Police caught a criminal red-handed while making country-made gun following a raid in one house at Rail Bazaar here on Saturday. Upon continous and rigorous  interrogation he revealed that the gun making factory had been running for the past several years.

After searching the house the police recovered tools required for making the gun.

According to the police, one Ramnaresh r/o Narwal was held with as many as four country-made guns and also disclosed of the persons' names whom he had sold the country-made guns. 

India: Free medical tests stopped at Ursula Hospital

KANPUR: Patients were availing the benefit of free medical tests at Dufferin & Ursula Horsman Memorial hospitals in the city. Two different pathology centers were making available all those various types of tests free of cost to the patients. As there was a government’s contract with the private laboratory which was done three years ago, the patients did not realize the load of costs usually faced by them.

Banned currency notes found in Nullah cleaning

Kanpur: It was astonishing that the confiscated currency notes in the denomination of one thousand and five hundred were found into the drains during its cleaning in Govind Nagar area here on Thursday. 

When the safari mazdoor deputed for cleaning the nullah saw wads of banned currency notes, they started removing silt fast. They kept the notes under their possession and informed the NN officers about the recovery of demonetised notes. 

India: 55-year-old property dealer murdered in Naubasta

Kanpur: One old person was murdered in a house of Raman Vihar under Naubasta police station here on Thursday morning. On getting information the police and the forensic team reached the spot. The Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev Tiwari and SP (South) Raveena Tyagi were also present on the spot.  Evidence was collected and cause of crime was also tried to find out. 

55-year-old property dealer Prahlad r/o Naubasta Lalpur was alone at his house as the wife Siyapyari was away at Gauriya village in Bakewar Fatehpur to attend uncle's terahwi. He was issueless. 

Maulvi booked for hitting minor girl with belt in Noida

Noida, May 8 (PTI) A religious teacher was Wednesday booked for allegedly thrashing a six-year-old girl with a belt at a madrassa in sector 115 here, police said.

A complaint was lodged at the sector 49 police station here against maulvi Ladak Hussain by the minor girl's father, a resident of sector 73, they said.

"The six-year-old girl was enrolled at the madrassa in sector 115. When I went to meet her recently, I found she had bruises from a belt on her back. She told me that she was brutally beaten by the maulvi," the complainant alleged.

India: Three shops burnt into fire near Rama Devi crossing

Kanpur: People started running to and fro as three shops caught fire here on Tuesday afternoon. 

As usual there was enough movement of the people around the Ramadevi crossing here. When a godown of dona-pattal caught fire its leaping flares took into grip two other shops like one general store and secondly iron godown.

Seeing the dangerous situation the shopkeepers remained fearful of reaching its hot flares to more shops.

But three tenders of the Fire Brigade  were put into service for extinguishing the fire. It took a considerable time in controlling the fire. 

India: Hallet patient faces tough time due to confusion

Kanpur: One female patient admitted at the Hallet Hospital' s emergency Ward had to face unexpected trouble when she was not allowed to enter the Ward after returning from the doctor-prescribed test at the Cardiology. 

Admitted on bed no 3 of the Emergency Ward, Maya Devi was getting treatment under Dr A Kumar. 

India: Muzaffarnagar riots: Court orders to attach property of six accused

Muzaffarnagar, May 7 (PTI) A court here has ordered to attach the property of all six accused in a Muzaffarnagar riots case as they failed to surrender before it despite repeated arrest warrants.

The accused had allegedly stabbed a youth, Shahnawaz, to death at Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar on August 27, 2013.

The accused have been identified as Ravinder, Prehlad, Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devender and Jitender.
