India: Muzaffarnagar riots case: Court acquits 12 people

Muzaffarnagar (UP), May 29 (PTI) A local court here has acquitted 12 people due to lack of evidence in connection with the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case.

Additional District Sessions Judge Sanjive Kumar Tiwari acquitted them under sections 395 (dacoity) and 436 (arson) of the IPC on Tuesday in the riots case.

According to prosecution, an SIT had filed charge sheet against 13 people under sections 495 and 436 of the IPC. One person died during the pendency of the case.

India: Hallet Hospital facing paucity of dressing & etc

Kanpur: As many as five hospitals viz., Murari Lal Chest Hospital, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, Maternity Hospital, Children Hospital and Contagious diseases Hospital attached with Ganesh Shanked Vidyarthi Medical College are facing utmost paucity of basic things like dressing, glucose and injection at present. This was due to the fact of delay in budget for purchase. 

Though Dr Arti Lalchandani, principal, GSVM College has categorically said that the stock would be made available after the budget is recieved. 

India: Spurious liquor claims 6 lives in UP

Barabanki (UP), May 28: Six people died and at least 20 others were taken ill after consuming spurious liquor in the district, prompting the Yogi Adityanath government to order a high-level probe to look into all angles including possibility of a political conspiracy, officials said Tuesday.

Four members of a family are said to be among those who died in the incident that took place on Monday night. Heads rolled after the incident with authorities suspending 10 excise and two police officials.

India: 3 held over killing of Amethi BJP worker

Amethi (UP), May 27 (PTI) Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of a BJP worker in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district two days ago, police said on Monday.

Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh said there was a local-level political rivalry between the deceased, Surendra Singh, 50, and the father of one of the accused.

India: Poor patient denied even stretcher at LLR Hospital

Kanpur: The poor patients are generally indicted if they demand of any free facility at the government hospitals. Such case has come to light at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital here. Only a stretcher was demanded from a hapless father but he faced harsh reality of inuman behaviour by the hospital staff.

Varanasi, May 27 (PTI) Chemistry has triumphed over poll arithmetic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday, profusely thanking Varanasi voters for electing him by a huge margin in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Political analysts will have to accept that beyond poll arithmetic there is a chemistry," he told party workers on his first visit to his constituency after his resounding victory which was by a higher margin this time.

India: Murder case eyewitness shot dead on highway in UP

Muzaffarnagar, May 26 (PTI) A man who was an eyewitness to the killing of his brother was shot dead by two bike-born miscreants in Shamli district, a police official said Sunday.

Siyanand, 45, was shot dead on the Meerut-Karnal highway when he was returning home from a sugar mill in Shamli city last evening, the official said.

Police suspect old enmity to be the reason behind the killing.

Siyanand was an eyewitness to the killing of his brother Ravinder, who too was shot dead a few months ago.

India: Smriti Irani aide shot dead in Amethi: Police

Amethi, May 26 (PTI) A close aide of Smriti Irani, the newly elected MP from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead by two men, with police not ruling out the possibility of it being a "political murder".

Surendra Singh (50), a former head of Baraulia village, was shot at around 11.30pm Saturday, said Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram.

He was referred to a Lucknow hospital but he succumbed during treatment, Ram said.

Two suspects have been detained for questioning, police said.

IT Assistant's dead body found

Kanpur: 40-year-old income tax assistant Ajay Kumar was found dead in dubious circumastances in his house at Officer's colony in Laxman Bagh here. His dead body was lying there for the past about five days. His house was closed. 

Police said his family members were informed of his death. They were expected to arrive sooner. 

According to the reports he belonged to Ranchi. He had been transferred here from Chennai two years back. The neighbors informed of his death as stinks enveloped the surrounding. His clotheless body was lying on the wooden takht.
