India: Plying of e-buses in Kanpur halts for three days due to second mishap

Kanpur: In view of the second e-bus mishap within nearly two weeks, it has been decided by the authorities concerned to take off the electronic bus plying on the road." The plying of e-buses are being withdrawn for three days," said Raj Sekhar, divisional commissioner here.

The speeding e-bus whacked the people when traffic was on a halt due to red traffic light.

One of the injured was hurriedly taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital with multiple fractures, the police let out.

India: Hallet's Neurology dept lacks medicines to dispense

Kanpur: Not only medicines but doctors in the Neurology department of the Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College here are not conveniently available.

Prof RK Mauraya, SIC, Lala Lajpat Rai & Associated Hospitals, said, " Purchase of medicines for epilepsy has not been procured owing to its exclusion from rate contract list. There has been sent a letter for initiation of fresh tender. The order shall be placed after obtaining permission."

Reportedly, it was pointed out that the doctors were prescribing medicines of different companies.

India: UP polls first phase: Over 60 pc turnout recorded

Lucknow, Feb 10 (PTI) Over 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of polling held on Thursday across 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Polling closed at 6 pm following a one-hour extension because of COVID-19 protocols. The day passed off peacefully with minor technical snags in EVMs at some places, election officials said.

Additional Chief Election Officer (ACEO) B D Ram Tiwari said, "There were reports of a technical error in EVMs at some places." Those EVMs were being replaced as the reports came in, he added.

India: Polling begins in west UP

Lucknow, Feb 10 (PTI) The battle for Uttar Pradesh began on Thursday with polling at 58 assembly seats spread across 11 districts in the western part of the state.

Polling started at 7.00 AM and will continue till 6.00 PM, officials of the state election commission said here.

Campaigning in the constituencies going to vote in the first round of the seven-phase election in the politically crucial state ended on Tuesday evening.

India: Police officer averts suicide bid of mimicry artist Arpit Saini

Kanpur: Kanpur- based mimicry artist Arpit Saini posted a picture that said 'Watch the live telecast of my death at 12 o clock' on Facebook on Tuesday. 

The post triggered shock among followers and friends on Facebook, one of whom has reportedly alerted the police.

Finding his phone number from his friend, the police rushed to search Arpit Saini.

The Police Station House Officer Amit Bhadana kept him engaged him in a phone conversation till the police reached his residence.

India: Electioneering ends for first phase of polling in UP

Lucknow, Feb 8 (PTI) Electioneering ended Tuesday evening for the first phase of assembly polls in western Uttar Pradesh after a busy day during which the ruling BJP and the main opposition Samajwadi Party released their manifestoes.

Polling will take place for 58 assembly constituencies spread across 11 districts, out of the 403 seats in the state, on Thursday.

Under Election Commission guidelines, campaigning has to end 48 hours before the close of polls for each phase.

India: BJP candidate's convoy attacked in UP's Bhaghpat

Baghpat (UP), Feb 8 (PTI) BJP candidate and MLA Sahendra Ramala's convoy was allegedly attacked in Baghpat's Chhaprauli on Tuesday.

Cow dung was thrown on the convoy, which was also pelted with stones, BJP workers alleged.

BJP leaders said a procession was being taken out in support of the BJP candidate when cow dung and cow dung cakes were thrown at the vehicles.

India: Electioneering also increases rates of flowers in Kanpur

Kanpur: Flood in river Ganga and assembly elections are the two prime reasons for a surge in rates of flower here.

Owing to swell in the river Gangs the flower farming has been badly affected.

It is about two months since the rise of water level in the river the farmers engaged in farming the flowers are dismayed.

Their expectation has been dashed as the produce has been destroyed due to flood. The adjacent areas ideal for producing the flowers have been inundated.

India: Girl raped by shopkeeper in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Feb 8 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper who also filmed the act, police said on Tuesday.

Family members of the victim told police that she had gone to buy some goods from a shop where the shopkeeper sexually assaulted her. He also made a video of the act and shared it on social media, the police said

The incident took place on Sunday in the Purkazi area of the district, they added.
