India: Son of farmer killed in Lakhimpur violence will contest next LS poll against Teni

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Feb 5 (PTI) The son of a farmer killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident allegedly involving Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son says he has declined the offer of the SP and the Congress to contest in the assembly polls and instead has asked them to field him in the 2024 Parliamentary election against the minister himself.

Jagdeep Singh is the the eldest son of Nachhatar Singh, one of the eight people who were allegedly mowed down in the district during a farmer demonstration.

India: Adityanath files nomination from Gorakhpur Urban seat

Gorakhpur, Feb 4 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday filed nomination from the Gorakhpur Urban assembly seat in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

After a rally, Shah and Adityanath went to the collectorate office for submission of papers for the election.

Adityanath is fighting the assembly election for the first time. He had represented the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat for five times in the past.

Gorakhpur Urban seat will go to vote in the sixth phase on March 3.

Agra (UP), Feb 4 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday took a swipe at the ruling BJP asking if anyone saw criminals fleeing the state as the party has been claiming.

He said the SP will ensure a historic defeat to BJP and will send Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath back to Uttarakhand.

India: 2 Hindutva terrorists held for attack on Owaisi

Noida, Feb 4 (PTI) The Hapur police on Friday said it has arrested a second suspect involved in the firing on AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi's car.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief's vehicle came under attack in Hapur while he was returning to Delhi after attending election-related events in western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening, a week before assembly polls begin in the state.

No one was injured in the incident.

India: Kanpur finds unique variety of aspirants on its assembly seats

Kanpur: Unique variation is seen among the Candidates who do not feel odd at moving in expensive cars during public contact.

There also remains a certain number of candidates who possess wealth in crores.

However, there are a few candidates who seek others' help for moving in the cars.  

As many as 93 candidates are in the run for assembly polls on all the ten seats of Kanpur.

It is reported that more than 20 candidates do not own either a bike or a car.

There are reportedly four candidates who own either a bike or scooty.

India: Dist admin arranges pink voting booths for females in Kanpur

Kanpur: Women voters in Kanpur will vote at pink polling booths set up on all the ten seats here.

"Pink booths are being set up especially for women as they often don't feel comfortable standing in the same queue as men.

The decision to set up pink booths has been taken to increase the voting percentage of women.

These booths will be managed completely by women staff members," said Kanpur district magistrate Neha Sharma.

The authorities have also arranged wheelchairs and toilets at all the booths for the elderly and differently-abled voters

Kanpur: Kanpur Metro has been awarded with Effective Safety Culture Award. It was also recognised for its efforts in completion of priority corridor project by Delhi- based Greentech Foundation, last year.

This body felicitates innovators for their contribution to the protection or safety of the environment and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, UPMRC said, "Environment protection has always been our priority."

Under the Kanpur Metro Project, we have translocated trees, made suitable arrangements for rainwater harvesting, he added. 

India: BJP MLA from Bara seat quits party

Prayagraj, Feb 2 (PTI) The BJP MLA from reserved Bara assembly constituency in Prayagraj district quit the party on Wednesday in protest against allegedly being kept in dark about the party's intention to leave the seat for a coalition partner candidate.

BJP MLA Ajay Kumar told reporters that he has resigned from the primary membership of the party.

Explaining his reason for taking the drastic step, Dr Kumar said he had been hearing of the BJP leadership's intention to leave the Bara seat for a candidate of alliance partner Apna Dal (S)

India: Minor girl abducted, raped repeatedly by man in UP

Bhadohi (UP) Feb 1 (PTI) A 24-year-old man belonging to Varanasi has been arrested on charges of abducting a minor girl and raping her repeatedly in his captivity, police said on Tuesday.

After securing the girl from the youth's captivity in the Aurai police station area of the Bhadohi district, the police sent her for medical examination.

SHO Ajay Kumar Seth of the Aurai police station said the man belonging to the Mirzamurad police station area of Varanasi had abducted the girl on January 24 from a village and raped her several times at an unknown place.

India: Student's reply at online class annoys subject teacher

Kanpur: "My sister is wedding," reacted the student at the subject teacher's ire for being irregular at an online class at a posh school here.

She countered, was the wedding continuing for the whole month?

His reply was a little bit unusual for the teacher so she told him to discuss the long absence with the class teacher. 

She was quite perplexed at the student's quick use of peculiar utterance at the time.
