India: Official website of Deoband Darul Uloom banned

Saharanpur, Feb 7 (PTI) The official website of the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom at Deoband in the Saharanpur district was banned on Monday.

The ban was imposed by District Magistrate Akhilesh Singh who had been asked by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to probe into an alleged diktat over the issue of legal rights of adopted children on their parent's property, an official said.

India: IT team conducts raid on offices of Kanpur jeweller

Kanpur: The Income Tax Department has reportedly conducted raids at the offices of a Kanpur-based jeweller Rajender Aggarwal and recovered a huge amount of cash.

According to the information, the search operation is going on for the last twenty four hours.

The IT sources claimed that the jeweller has not given any satisfactory answer in this regard.

The IT teams reached Swaroop Nagar and his residential address at the Civil Lines area and began scanning various important papers.

India: PM's physical rally in UP cancelled due to bad weather, to address virtually

Bijnor (UP), Feb 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first physical rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh on Monday was cancelled due to inclement weather and he will now virtually address the election meeting, BJP sources said.

Arrangements had been made at the Bardaman college ground here for the prime minister's rally but due to bad weather he could not arrive here, they said.

The prime minister would now address the people virtually.

India: Two smugglers caught with 1868 turtles in Kanpur

Kanpur: Two smugglers of turtles were caught during a checking push on Ramadevi flyover here. As many as 1868 turtles were recovered.

They were identified as Javed and Mohammad Farookh, both residents of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.

Kanpur STF received specific information about these smugglers. The checking on the basis of the input was done on the Ramadevi flyover here.

Soon, a truck was seized by the officials conducting the checking. The arrested ones were smuggling these turtles under the pretext of mica.

India: Lakhs bathe in Ganga, at Sangam on Basant Panchami in UP

Prayagraj, Feb 5 (PTI) Braving the cold and the coronavirus pandemic, around 15.5 lakh devotees bathed in the icy waters of the Ganga river and at Sangam here till 8 pm on Saturday on the occasion of Basant Panchami, the fourth major bathing festival of the ongoing Magh Mela.

Officials said devotees started thronging the river banks in the early hours of the day and they continued to arrive in huge numbers for a holy dip.

India: BJP postpones release of manifesto for UP polls

Lucknow, Feb 6 (PTI) The BJP on Sunday postponed the release of its manifesto for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in view of death of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, state party president Swatantra Dev Singh said.

The manifesto release programme was scheduled at the BJP office here at 10.15 am, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and state party president had gathered for it.

India: Fresh voters remain on political parties' care in Kanpur

Kanpur: Political parties are following varied gimmicks to lure young voters in this episode of the UP assembly polls.

Reportedly there are registered more than 33 thousand young voters who will exercise their vote for the first time.
