KANPUR: Complete lockdown has been effective in different areas of Jajmau. During the morning time, people's activity and movement remain visible. Medicine shops, petrol pumps, mobile recharge kiosks are opened. On the roads,  vegetable vendors along with fruits sellers also appear.

India: BJP member among 43 booked for violating lockdown norms

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Apr 13 (PTI) Forty-three people, including a BJP member, have been booked for allegedly violating lockdown norms in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said the FIRs were lodged and copies of it were delivered to the residences, and also put up outside the houses of the people, which included BJP member Vipul Tyagi.

India: Lockdown extension meaningful if COVID-19 testing is intensified

Lucknow, Apr 12 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown will be meaningful only if COVID-19 testing is intensified and people get access to essential items.

"The demand to extend the lockdown will be meaningful only if COVID-19 testing is intensified, health workers get protection and the public gets access to essential items, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Baraat stuck in Aligarh for three weeks due to lockdown

Aligarh, Apr12 (PTI) Savitri cannot go to her marital home despite the baraat waiting for three weeks and some baraat members have started to lose patience. But no one is able to do anything and Savitri does not say much but she must be confused. Vidhipur villagers say none of them would ever forget this marriage.

Savitri's baraat arrived on March 21 and it was to return to Dhanbad district in Jharkhand on March 23, but then the nationwide lockdown was announced and it got stuck, along with the bride and the groom.

India: Doctors raise funds to buy PPEs after acute shortage of gear

Aligarh (UP), Apr 12 (PTI) Junior doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Aligarh city of Uttar Pradesh has purchased protective gear worth Rs 1 lakh after an acute shortage of vital protective gear for healthcare workers.

"The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital is one of the frontline medical centres for testing and treating COVID-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh," Shah Nawaz Iqbali, vice president of the resident doctors' association, told reporters on Sunday. "The concern of the medical fraternity here should not be ignored."

India: 4 booked on complaint by an RSS person

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Apr 12 (PTI) A case has been registered in Muzaffarnagar after a man allegedly sheltered three persons who came from outside Uttar Pradesh during the lockdown, police said.

Acting on a complaint by an RSS activist, Shamim, Salman and Waseem were held at the Gandhi Nagar locality on Saturday for staying at the house without informing the police, an officer said.

India: Man commits suicide as he missed wife in lockdown

Gonda (UP), Apr 9 (PTI) A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

India: Retired cop held for liquor home delivery in UP's Etah

Etah (UP), Apr 9 (PTI) A retired policeman has been arrested here for delivering liquor to the doorsteps of people despite a nationwide lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19, police said on Thursday.

Peshkar was held with 13 cartons of country-made liquor in Malawan area, said Etah SSP Sunil Kumar Singh.

The accused was involved in liquor trade and home delivery of liquor in the district, the senior superintendent of police said.

Peshkar was sent to jail after registration of an FIR against him, the SSP added.

India: UP Govt official alleges assault by BJP MP

Kannauj (UP), Apr 7 (PTI) A state government official on Tuesday accused the BJP MP from Kannauj of assaulting him.

Tehsildar Sadar, Arvind Kumar alleged that MP Subrat Pathak was pressurising him to sanction some projects which flouted rules and when he refused, the leader verbally abused him on the phone and later arrived at his residence along with his supporters and beat him up.
