India: After 10-day walk, migrant workers reach UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar, May 6 (PTI) A group of migrant workers, accompanied by women and children, reached UP's Shamli after travelling on foot for 10 days from Punjab's Ludhiana, police said on Wednesday.

The group of 40 included five children and three women.

They were going towards Fatehpur district when police stopped them in Shamli on Tuesday evening.

Police said the group members said that they had to cross the Yamuna river with the help of a tube during their journey.

India: Teenage Dalit girl raped by man in UP

Chitrakoot (UP), May 5 (PTI) A teenage Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a man in the Rajapur area here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday when the 14-year-old girl was going to the field, they said.

The girl later reached home and informed her family members about it, who approached the police, they said.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused, police said.

The accused, 21, has been arrested, they said.

India: Sudden rains with thunderstorm reduces heat

KANPUR: Suddenly the weather changed in the afternoon today. There was darkness followed by a speeding gust. Afterwards, it was raining fast but did not continue for a long time.

Though the day began with partly sunny weather, showers and thunderstorm brought the temperature as lower as to 20.7 degrees Celsius. Wind gusts remained to blow at probably above the speed of 11Km/h.

For the rozedars, the fine weather was like a blessing, said the devouts adding that lower temperature would definitely reduce the craving for thirst if such weather continues.

India: UP govt issues order regarding relaxations from Monday

Lucknow, May 3 (PTI) In conformity with the Union Home Ministry guidelines, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday issued orders regarding the relaxations to be given during the third phase of the coronavirus lockdown beginning Monday.

According to an official, the government accepted the definition of the zones as provided by the Centre.

He said everyone in the hotspots has been urged to download the Arogya Setu app.

India: Newborn girl found abandoned in UP's Shamli district

Muzaffarnagar, May 4 (PTI) A newborn girl was found abandoned in a wooded area in Uttar Pradesh's Bantikheda village on Monday, police said.

The girl was found by villagers and later handed over to police. The baby has been admitted to a government hospital in Shamli district, they said.

Police are trying to trace the baby's family.

India: Role of Tablighi Jamaat was most condemnable: Adityanath

Lucknow, May 2 (PTI) Holding the Tablighi Jamaat responsible for the spread of COVID-19, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that being infected with a virus is not a crime but to hide it is definitely a crime.

Speaking at a programme of a news channel, Adityanath said, "The role of Tablighi Jamaat was most condemnable. To get a disease is not a crime but to hide a disease which is infectious is definitely a crime. And this crime has been done by those associated with the Tablighi Jamaat."

India: Ensure UP borders are sealed to stop entry of 'coronavirus carriers': Adityanath

Lucknow, May 1 (PTI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday asked officials to ensure that Uttar Pradesh's borders remain sealed so that people who maybe "coronavirus carriers" cannot enter the state.

He gave the directions at a review meeting.

India: Lockdown has not closed door for street dogs

KANPUR: Stray dogs are completely saved from lockdown norm. These street dogs enter every area whether red zone, orange or green. Where men can not enter, these feral dogs go without any fear.

They seem to enter and exit defying the watchmen's sight.

The moment they start roaming inside the closed gate, the children start screaming. Children run away out of a deep sense of panic. Dog makes a quick way out before adults come to their rescue.
