India: MLA registers strong protest at water-logging

Kanpur: A legislature has adopted unique way to register his protest at the Municipal Corporation' s failure in controlling the menace of water-logging in the city areas during the ongoing rains. On Tuesday he reached the office of Nagar Ayukt to present a replica of boat with the inscription of 'Nakaami Gangey'. He also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Urban devevelopment Minister, UP Govt, Suresh Khanna significantly mentioning the city's poor condition. Side by side he also raised demand for action against irresponsible officers of the KMC. 

India: Rly to lay down 4th track from Panki to Bhaupur station

Kanpur: To lessen the load on the New Delhi-Howarh route,  the Railway Board has okayed to lay down the fourth track from Panki to Bhaupur station. The tender process has also started. The track would be ready by the end of next year, as was being claimed. 

The trains coming from Delhi stay either at Panki outer or Govindpuri outer or Diamond Crossing for signal to reach Kanpur Central station. Sometimes the trains take more than one hour to reach the railway station. This proposed new track would bring down the time. 

India: As roof's plaster pulled down, bank's manager & senior staff argued

Kanpur: Heated argument ensued between the young manager and the old staff at the branch of a bank in Jajmau area over the roof's plaster peeled off suddenly on Monday afternoon. The clerk sitting on the cabin came out and the customers even rushed towards the road. Soon they again entered the branch for depositing and withdrawal of the cash. 

The argument was not long. The senior staff was complaining of the delay in repairing the broken roof while the manager was agitated at his complaint. He told the staff that the engineer had checked the bad condition. 

India: Policemen beaten up by villagers in UP

Shahjahanpur, Jul 7 (PTI) Twelve policemen including two sub-inspectors were injured when people allegedly attacked them when they stepped in to broker a truce between two sides disputing over installation of a transformer in Nathapur village here.

The incident took place on Saturday, Station House Officer (SHO), Puwayan, Jasveer Singh said.

India: 29 killed, 18 injured after bus falls from bridge in UP

Agra, Jul 8 (PTI) Twenty-nine people were killed and 18 injured after a state-run bus skidded off the Yamuna Expressway and fell into a large drain in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, officials said.

The bus was going from Lucknow to Delhi and had at least 50 passengers on board, they said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a committee to probe the reasons behind the accident and directed it to submit a report, Additional Chief Secretary Information, Awanish Awasthi, said.

India: Fazalganj Industrial Area Phase l reels under lack of civic amenities

Kanpur: Enter Fazalganj industrial area phase l and it will greet you with broken road, water-logging, piles of garbage, stuffed drains, overflowing sewer, etc. Rains have further aggravated the situation from bad to worse. Industrialists maintained that these anomalies have affected business worth about Rs 40 Crore. 

Strangely enough the civic problems have been raised at the meeting of the Udyog Bandhu but officials concerned seem to have adopted a very indifferent attitude, as they often stress upon.  

India: Govindnagar bye poll: BJP in active mode

Kanpur: The BJP is busy in devising plans to defeat the opposition parties in the coming Govindnagar assembly bye-poll here. There is talk of holding booth level sammelan of the three mandals.  

In recent days the incharge of the bye-poll & deputy chief minister Keshav Mauraya and co-incharge Ranjana Upadhaya gave the party workers a formula of victory and detailed strategy  of winning the poll in the separate meetings held at two mandals. 

India: BJP Yuva Morcha leader's wife shot dead for dowry

Barabanki (UP), Jul 7 (PTI) The wife of a BJP youth wing leader was allegedly shot dead in Fatehpur area of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, police said on Sunday.

Snehlata (28), the wife of Rahul Singh, a district-level office bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was shot dead under mysterious circumstances late on Saturday night, the police said.

India: BJP MP's security men thrash toll plaza staff

Agra (UP), Jul 6 (PTI) Security men accompanying BJP MP and Scheduled Castes commission chairman Ram Shankar Katheria opened fire in the air and allegedly thrashed employees at a toll post here on Saturday, police said.

The police have registered an FIR against Katheria and another person after the early morning fracas at the toll plaza on the inner ring road.

An aide to the MP claimed that the security guards opened fire in self-defence when they were attacked at the toll plaza.

India Budget will only help capitalists: Mayawati

Lucknow, Jul 5 (PTI) Reacting to the General Budget, BSP supremo Mayawati Friday said though the Union government tried to make it alluring, it would only help the capitalists.

"It has to be seen as to how this Budget of theirs is actually beneficial for the people of the country at the ground level," she said in a tweet, adding that the entire country was "distraught and harassed" by poverty, unemployment, poor educational and health facilities.
