India: Mayawati appoints brother, nephew to key party posts

Lucknow, Jun 23 (PTI) BSP chief Mayawati Sunday appointed her brother Anand Kumar as the party's national vice president and her nephew Akash Anand as its national coordinator, a senior leader said.

She also appointed BSP leader Ramji Gautam as the party's national coordinator. The decision was taken at a meeting here which was attended by top functionaries of the party.

Amroha MP Danish Ali has been made the leader of the party in Lok Sabha and its Nagina MP Girish Chandra has been appointed the chief whip, he said.

India: Minor Dalit girl abducted in UP while sleeping, killed

Unnao (UP), Jun 21 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and later killed while she was sleeping with her family members outside their house in a village here, police said Friday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday at a village under Safipur Police Station limits, they said.

Police said whether the girl, belonging to the Dalit community, was raped or not will be clear only after the post-mortem examination.

India: Kanpur's martyr given tearful farewell

Kanpur: It was a very sad day for the people of Billhaur's Uttaripura area when the dead body of Kapilesh Mishra, warrant officer of air force, reached at the village. There was a large crowd of people to pay homage to the martyr.  His last rites were completed at Ganga Ghat Shivraj Khereswar. 

He was one among the thirteen passengers boarding the IAF plane AN-32 which lost its way on June 3. While its debris was located on June 13. It had mysteriously lost after its flight. 

India: 486 liquor cartons missing from police strong room in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jun 20 (PTI) A total of 486 cartons of liquor that had been seized during raids conducted in 2017 and 2018 have gone missing from a police station here, an official said Thursday.

The incident came to light on Wednesday that the seized cartons of liquor were missing from the 'malkhana' (strong room) of the Titavi police station, Station House Officer (SHO) S Kumar said.

A case of negligence has been registered against Jagbir Singh, in-charge of the malkhana, and the matter is being investigated, he said.

India: Truck driver shot dead over Rs 20 in UP

Banda, Jun 20 (PTI) A truck driver was shot dead by security guards of a sand mine in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Thursday for allegedly paying Rs 30 as 'rangdaari' (extortion) to them instead of Rs 50, a police official said.

Station house officer, Sisolar, Rakesh Kumar Pandey, said the incident took place around 4 am.

The security guards at Bhulsi sand mine-3 got into an argument with the truck driver, Arun Kumar (22), after he paid Rs 30 instead of Rs 50 as 'rangdaari', he said.

India: Minor raped for six months, man held

Bulandshahr (UP), Jun 20 (PTI) A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping a minor in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police said.

The accused, a resident of a village under the Khanpur police station here, had allegedly been raping his 16-year-old neighbour for the past six months and had threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke to anyone about it, Siyana Circle Officer (CO) Dhan Prakash Tyagi said.

India: Statistics not parameter for crime control: UP CM

Lucknow, Jun 20 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Thursday said "statistics are not a parameter for crime control" and faith of the people is the actual standard.

Chairing a review meeting of the Home department here, he referred to recent incidents of crime in the state and said, "Statistics are not a parameter for crime control. The actual standard is the faith of people, and we have to prove ourselves on this front."

India: Yoga day celebrated in UP

Lucknow, Jun 21 (PTI) The International Yoga Day was Friday observed across Uttar Pradesh, with Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attending the main programme in the state capital.

The main programme was held at the Raj Bhawan in the state capital.

BJP state vice-president Vidyasagar Sonkar said International Yoga Day functions have been organised across the state and in almost all districts.

UP ministers joined the functions in their respective districts.

Couple's argument created scene on road

Kanpur: Was it not a huband-wife argument? She raised her voice for son's upbringing but the husband did not relent. 

It was reported that her married life began to worsen after a few months. She alleged that she had to face wrath of her husband and mother-in-law on some or another matters. 

On Thursday afternoon the dispute was openly seen on the road in Kidwai Nagar here. Although the police tried to control the enraged wife but of no avail. Later some workers of Manila Sakhi Kendra brought her wrath down anyhow. She was sent to the home after their intervention. 

India: 7 children drown after van falls into canal in Lucknow

Lucknow, Jun 20; PTI/GANASHAKTI: At least seven children were feared drowned after a pick-up van fell into the Indira canal in Nagram area here, district officials said Thursday.

The van carrying 29 people, who were returning from a marriage ceremony in neighbouring Barabanki district, fell into the canal late Wednesday night, Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said, adding that 22 of them have been rescued.
