India: Jaya Prada challenges Azam Khan's election

Allahabad, Jul 5 (PTI) BJP leader Jaya Prada Friday filed a petition before the Allahabad High Court, challenging the election of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from the Rampur parliamentary constituency.

Jaya Prada alleged in the petition that at the time of his election, Azam Khan held the post of the Chancellor of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, which was an office of profit.

She also alleged that Azam Khan made religious appeals to get votes.

India: STPs inspected, necessary directives given

Kanpur: Expressing annoyance at non-functional two motors and electronic panels of 5 MLD Wazidpur STP during his inspection here on Friday, the Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Manoj Singh directed the officials to make its function in accordance with the set standard.

As the new 20 MLD common effluent treatment plant to cleanse tannery's polluted water prior to falling into the Ganga river has to be constructed, he maintained that the old STP should be repaired and new unit should be established on the open space available on the campus. 

Indian Judge, who wrote to PM on nepotism, denied farewell

Lucknow, July 4 P; IANS/GANASHAKTI: Allahabad High Court judge Rangnath Pandey who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging 'favouritism, nepotism and casteism in the appointment of judges, was not given the customary farewell party when he retired on Thursday.

The farewell party, known as full court reference in the legal parlance, which was scheduled to be held in the Chief Justice's Court at 3.45 p.m. was cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

India: Rats sipping glucose at Rawatpur urban PHC

Kanpur: Rats were sipping glucose, taking medicines on its own choice at the Rawatpur Urban PHC here. This disclosure came to light after the district magistrate's inspection of the primary health center on Thursday morning. He got the videography of the irregularities persisting and enquired the CMO of the poor condition. 

When the DM Vijay Viswas Pant tried to know of the situation the staff failed to reply properly. Even the PHC Incharge Dr Anita was also not available, she came late by one hour. While taking a look at the attendance register he found absence of three ANMs. 

Love for goats made him Babu Bakra in Jajmau

Kanpur: Babu Bakra is an unique man. He takes utmost interest in rearing goats. This is his natural habit as he himself cares the animals. He even gives them strange names. It is only he who knows how to select or choose the particular names for his pet goats. Every year he buys a pair of immature male goats and rears them with full interest and devotion. 

India: Mohiit Agarwal joins as IG Kanpur Range

Kanpur: A senior IPS officer Mohiit Agarwal of 1997 batch has been appointed IG of Kanpur range.He had been SP in Unnao in the year 2004 & Kanpur Dehat in the year 2009 respectively. He belongs to Faridpur Tehsil of Bareilly district. 

Addressing the mediamen here on Thursday, he pointed out that the police would be made responsible for giving a feeling of safety to the common people.

The list of the top ten criminals will be pasted at tehsils and city's crossings. The police will have to face disciplinary action, he maintained.

India: Jajmau road from Nai Chungi to Galla Godam Turn dreads

Kanpur: Jajmau is a fast growing town both in terms of population and business. It is still famed as leather hub, though much of its work has shifted to Unnao side and other areas. But Jajmau is still synonymous with leather.The tanneries were so big as the work used to be done inside its precincts.

With passing of days the shops were spread particularly from Nai Chungi to the road turning towards Galla Godam. If we look at simply the length of the road, it is neiher good nor wide enough. On both the sides of the road there remains usual traffic jam with visible encroachments.

India: UP started screening of corrupt police officials

Lucknow, Jul 4 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has started an operation to screen corrupt police officials who will be asked to take compulsory retirement, the state's top cop said Thursday.

"The idea is to refurbish the image of the state police. As part of of the clean-up efforts, corrupt policemen will be asked to take compulsory retirement," DGP, OP Singh, told PTI.

Work on desilting Pandu river to begin soon

Kanpur: To cleanse the much-talked Pandu river originating from Farrukhabad district in the state of Uttar Pradesh the irrigation department and the MNREGA have taken a joint responsibility of removal of the accumulated in the river that mingles with the flow of Ganga river near Chaudagra in Fatehpur district. 

Interesting point to note is that the river area will also be measured herewith so that notices to encroahers will be issued. 

India: Man, his son held for raping and killing two sisters

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jun 30 (PTI) A man and his son, who were absconding since 2014, were arrested for allegedly raping and killing two sisters in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday.

Inam and his son Isar were hiding at a village in Ambala in Haryana and were arrested on Saturday, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said.

The two were carrying rewards of Rs 20,000 each on their arrest, he said.
