India: 3 teenagers go missing from UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 19 (PTI) Three teenagers, who had together gone for a bath in a canal here, have gone missing in Uttar Pradesh's Kandhla town in Shamli district, police said Wednesday.

The trio had gone for a bath in the canal on Monday but when they did not return home till Tuesday morning, their parents informed police, SHO Sanjiv Kumar said.

The three youths have been identified as Bilal (15), Sajid (14) and Aslem (13), he said.

A case was registered and a search operation was underway to find the three teenagers, he added.

4 get life term in 2005 Ayodhya attack case, 1 acquitted

Allahabad, Jun 18 (PTI) A special court here sentenced four persons to life imprisonment and acquitted one in connection with the 2005 terror attack on a makeshift temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid complex here in which two locals were killed and seven CRPF personnel injured.

Special judge Dinesh Chandra, who announced the verdict inside the Naini Central Jail where the accused are lodged, also imposed a fine of Rs 2.4 lakh on each of the four, Public Prosecutor Gulab Chandra Agrahari told reporters here.

India: Driver held on rape charge

Gorakhpur (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a driver here, police said Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Ravi Prakash Rai (30), had been arrested, they said.

The girl was alone when the accused allegedly took her to an isolated place near Bhagwanpura village around 9 pm on Monday and raped her, police said.

India: UP govt to now issue press releases in Sanskrit too

Lucknow Jun 18 (PTI) In a bid to promote Sanskrit, the Uttar Pradesh government will now issue press releases in Sanskrit along with Hindi, English and Urdu, an official said Tuesday.

The first press note in Sanskrit was issued by the state government's Information Department on Monday.

Senior officials of the Information Department said the important speeches of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and government information will be released also in Sanskrit, along with Hindi, English and Urdu.

India: Only 80% nullahs cleaned so far, deadline over

Kanpur: Cleaning of nullahs has not completed by June 15 and this has led the Nagar Swasthya Adhikari Dr Ajay Kumar to seek clarification from officials concerned about the incomplete work. 

According to the reports only eighty percent nullahs has been cleaned. All the sanitary inspectors of the six zones  were asked to submit report but they did not comply. The deadline has been passed and the monsoon also is supposed to come soon. In such a precarious situation the possibility of water-logging looms large in city areas. 

India: Man stoned to death for demanding repayment in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 18 (PTI) A man was allegedly stoned to death by some people for demanding repayment of the money he had lent, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday when Aman Shekher, a resident of Khedu Sudiyan village, went to Ram Kumar's home to ask for repayment of his money, they said.

Following an argument between the two, the accused and his family allegedly attacked Shekher with stones, police said.

India: Customers fret & fume at post offices in Kanpur

Kanpur: The customers do not feel fine if the chairs marked for senior citizens are more often seen occupied by the agents on the upper floor of the Head Post Office here. Its building exists at the city's prime place that's why there remains ample crowd at the post office. 

When the nailed board on the wall specifically describes the arrangement of the chairs for elderly, the strictness is not followed, said an elder person who was requiring rest till the time the clerk was not available at his counter.

India: Jayaprada's petition challenging Azam Khan's election from Rampur dismissed

Lucknow, Jun 14 (PTI) The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday dismissed a writ petition of BJP leader Jayaprada challenging the election of Azam Khan from the Rampur parliamentary constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.

A bench comprising Justice Rajan Roy and Justice N K Jauhari dismissed the writ petition of BJP leader Jayaprada on the grounds of lack of territorial jurisdiction.

The bench said Rampur falls under the jurisdiction of the Allahabad High Court and hence, a petition in the Lucknow bench is not maintainable.

India: Man drowns wife for refusing to have sex with tantrik

Aligarh, Jun 14 (PTI) A 32-year-old woman was allegedly drowned in a river here by her husband for refusing to have sex with a tantrik (occultist), police said Friday.

According to police, the incident took place Thursday.

The woman's husband and the occultist have been nabbed by police.

Police said the crime was witnessed by the victim's teenage son, who screamed for help when the woman's husband, Maanpal, was executing his plan.
