India: Adityanath visits Ayodhya, says everyone wants Ram temple there

Ayodhya, Jun 7 (PTI ) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Thursday offered prayers at the makeshift Ram Lalla temple here, on a visit meant to reiterate support for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site.

"It is everybody's wish that Ram Mandir must be constructed," he said on his first trip to the temple town after the Lok Sabha elections.

Adityanath unveiled a seven-foot Ram statue at a museum in the city and also took part in celebrations to mark the birthday of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas chief Mahant Nritya Gopal Das.

India: Cops suspended after toddler's murder, NSA to be invoked

Aligarh (UP), Jun 7 (PTI) Amid outrage over the murder of a toddler here, authorities on Friday suspended five policemen for negligence and began proceedings to invoke the stringent NSA against the two men who allegedly killed her over a Rs 10,000 loan.

The decomposed body of the two-and-a-half-year-old was found in a garbage dump three days after she was reported missing by her family in Tappal township, police said.

Indian honour killing: Man arrested for killing sister's lover

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 8 (PTI) A man was arrested here for allegedly killing his sister's lover, police said on Saturday.

Manish along with his brother Shiv Kumar had shot dead Kuldeep (24) on Friday evening at Balipur village under Miranpur Police Station in the district.

He was arrested after a brief exchange of fire in which he sustained injuries, the police said, adding that the hunt for Shiv Kumar was on.

India: Mutilated body of 3-year-old girl found in Aligarh

Aligarh, Jun 6 (PTI) The mutilated body of a 3-year-old girl was found in a garbage dump here, with an initial probe indicating that the killing was a fallout of a monetary dispute, police said Thursday.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the crime.

Senior Superintendent of Police Akash Kulhari said the girl went missing from Tappal township on May 31 and on June 2, police found her mutilated body in a garbage dump near her house.

India: At least 19 killed due to dust storm, lightning in UP

Lucknow, Jun 7 (PTI) At least 19 persons were killed and 48 injured due to dust storm and lightning in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, the state Relief commissioner said on Friday.

"While six persons died in Mainpuri, three persons each died in Etah and Kasganj and one each in one each in Moradabad, Badaun, Pilibhit, Mathura, Kannauj, Sambhal and Ghaziabad in incidents related to dust storm and lightning," official data released by the UP Relief commissioner said.

India: Water riots begin in UP's Bundelkhand

Banda (Uttar Pradesh), June 5; GANASHAKTI: Wells and hand-pumps have dried up, ponds have disappeared, the water table has receded and Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh is now fighting for water.

The few water sources that remain are becoming the proverbial bone of contention among the people and water riots are being reported from the rural interiors of Bundelkhand.

The state government, however, denied that there is any law and order problem due to water shortage in this region.

India: Muzaffarnagar riots: 5 arrested over youth's killing

Muzaffarnagar (UP), June 4 (PTI) Police Tuesday arrested five people accused of killing a man whose death was a trigger for the Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013.

According to the prosecution, the five -- Prahlad, Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devender and Jitender -- were arrested when the police reached their homes in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district to execute a court order to attach their properties.

India: SP-BSP alliance was based on selfish motives: Sadhvi Niranjan

Expressing her views on SP-BSP alliance,  the state minister for rural development Sadhvi Niranjan said it was heading for parting ways. It was based on selfish motives. It was not suited to both the parties. She was speaking with the mediapersons at the Central station here. 

On Mamta Bannerji she said that she seemed to be irritated over the defeat at the parliamentary debacle. That's why she was controlling the BJP men from chanting Jai Sri Ram. Ours being a democratic country gives freedom of expression to everyone.
