India: 8 children rescued from UP ashram

Muzaffarnagar, Jul 8 (PTI) Eight children from Tripura and Mizoram who were forced into bonded labour at an ashram in Shukratal here were rescued, police said on Wednesday.

Aged between 7 and 10 years, the children were allegedly made to wash utensils, prepare food and lay bricks at the Gaudiya math.

A team of child care helpline along with the police raided the ashram on Tuesday evening and rescued the minors, senior superintendent of police Abhishek Yadav said.

Pandemic leaves possible chance for bald-faced lies

KANPUR: "Hamarey mohalley main Covid-19 nikal aaya hai, isliye mein nahi aa paa raha hoon, " (Unable to turn up as Covid-19 has spread into my locality) said a skilled carpenter to an honest customer who has been waiting for him since a long time. 

His utterance of 'Covid-19 Nikalna' on the mobile phone surprised the customer who dialled him several times. 

First, he took time by saying that he was caught on the way for not wearing a face mask. This was a nice excuse for the delay.

India: Monday rains make the weather pleasant

KANPUR: Cloudy weather brought respite from extreme precipitation and humidity as the rains eased the restlessness of the city dwellers on Monday. 

During the early morning and evening, the rains comforted the uncomfortable people.

The heavy showers in the morning soothed the people intensely. The cloudy weather remained throughout the day.  However, there was a bright sky for some time too.

India: Three more policemen suspended over Vikas Dubey encounter

Kanpur/Lucknow, Jul 6 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh police have suspended three more of their men, suspecting that they tipped off Vikas Dubey whose gang members killed eight policemen in an ambush at a village near Kanpur last week.

Police on Monday also increased the reward for Dubey arrest to Rs 2.5 lakh, up from the Rs 1 lakh offered earlier.

UP Director General of Police H C Awasthy said police are conducting raids to track down the gangster, based on information they get.

India: Posters of terrorist Vikas Dubey put up at all toll plazas in UP

Lucknow, Jul 6 (PTI) In a bid to tighten the noose around Vikas Dubey, posters of the gangster have been put up at all toll plazas in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police official said on Monday.

Dubey is involved in the killing of eight police personnel in Kanpur on July 3.

Kanpur; 06 July 2020 (UMMN): UP police has demolished terrorist Vikas Dubey’s palatial house in Kanpur’s Bikru village after the brutal murder of eight policemen including a DSP.

Police found a bunker with two kg of explosives, six country-made pistols, 25 live rounds and shrapnels.

India: Shop owner tells beggar to stand outside store

KANPUR: The shopkeepers are not allowing the beggars to enter their shop in this time of social distancing. 

Though it was nothing new for them, they have their own reasons behind this open particular refusal.

They were asking them to wait outside the shop and beseech for alms. One shopkeeper was directing a woman beggar not to enter the shop. But she would ask for money standing outside the shop, he instructed. She at once turned back hearing the voice of the shopkeeper.

India: Bombardier Transport India bags contract for supply of train-sets for Kanpur, Agra Metro

Lucknow, July 3 (PTI) Bombardier Transport India has bagged a contract for the supply of 67 trains of three cars each for Kanpur and Agra Metro projects, according to an official statement.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded the contract for supply, testing and commissioning of 201 cars along with train control and signalling system to Bombardier Transport India Pvt. Limited.

Four international firms had submitted bids for the contract in February this year.

India: Four of family hacked to death in UP's Allahabad

Allahabad, Jul 3 (PTI) Four members of a family, including two women in their twenties, were found hacked to death in their house bolted from inside, police said on Friday.

The multiple murder took place in Shukul Ka Pura Baraey Harak village under the Holagadh police station area on late Thursday night, they said.

The slain family members included its 50-year-old head Lallan Prasad Pandey, his two daughters Sheebu, 22, and Shomu, 20, and son Prince, 18, the police added.

India: Crowded roads look wider in Civil Lines area

KANPUR: The road that used to be crowded near the District Court was not crowded these days.The roadside makeshift shop for typing, completing notary related documents and etc were running as usual. Their customers are turning up regularly.  

There were quite a negligent number of customers on Friday morning. The reason behind this scarcity of the customers was clear. The reality of no crowd rule was clearly applied on the road. 

As the vehicles' entry was not allowed and the shops have also closed the crowd was missing thereby giving the look of road  quite wider.
