India: Man kills 17-year-old daughter over affair in UP

Bahraich (UP), Jun 30 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district over an affair she was having after her marriage, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, Subhash, allegedly slit his daughter's throat as she was unwilling to record statement against her lover, Chhotkau, in a case filed by him on June 20, Superintendent of Police Vipin Mishra said.

The father was arrested on Monday, he said.

India: People chuck fear of locusts looming in Jajmau

KANPUR: Amidst the fear of locusts entering the precincts of Jajmau here, the people were seen moving in the afternoon today. Even the repairing work in regard to the electricity pole was also carried by the labourers. It showed that common people have not been deterred by the lurking fear of the locust swarms.

The roads linking the Nai Chungi crossing were on like normal days. Though the sunny sun was shining brightly there was no hesitation in beating the intense heat.

The shops remained open and the people  were purchasing what they required at the moment. 

India: Two girls raped in Uttar Pradesh in separate cases

Banda/Chitrakoot, June 29 (PTI) Two girls were allegedly raped by their uncles in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh's Banda and Chitrakoot, police said on Monday.

In Banda, a nine-year-old girl was abducted by her uncle from her home on Saturday night while she was sleeping, they said.

He allegedly took her to a forest and raped her, SHO of Tindwari police station Ram Dinesh Tiwari said.

India: Water-logged roads add extra trouble in Jajmau

KANPUR: Waterlogged roads are not scant in Jajmau area here. As rains have occurring time and again, the water-filled spots have been propped up in abundance. 

The road users are already troubled with the slippery roads during the monsoon. The long-standing problem of water-logging on pot-holed roads have heightened their misery to an intense level.

India: BJP MLA in UP tests positive for coronavirus infection

Sultanpur, Jun 27 (PTI) BJP MLA Devmani Dwivedi has tested positive for coronavirus infection, his family members said on Saturday.

Dwivedi represents Lambhua assembly constituency of Sultanpur district.

"A few days back, Dwivedi's health had deteriorated and he was admitted to a hospital in Sadar area of Lucknow. The doctors suggested him to undertake COVID-19 test. The test was conducted, and he tested positive for COVID-19. He has been shifted to KGMU for treatment," Dwivedi's brother Chintamani said.

India: Migrant labourer commits suicide in UP

Banda (UP) June 27 (PTI) A migrant labourer who recently returned from Surat allegedly committed suicide in Amlohara village here, police said on Saturday.

Mani Shankar Mishra (35) killed himself by hanging from the roof of his house on Friday, Sub Inspector Incharge of Oran Chowki Sultan Singh said.

The father of the deceased, Shambhu, told the police that Shankar and his wife worked in a factory in Surat but following the lockdown he returned to his village 20 days ago, Sultan Singh said.

India: Amid 'Coronil' row, Patanjali claims it broke no rules

Dehradun, Jun 25 (PTI) Under flak over the launch of a drug it claims be a cure for COVID-19, yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved on Thursday insisted that it broke no law.

"There is no room for confusion," the herbal products company said in a tweet.

The licence for the drug was obtained on the basis of the traditional knowledge and experience related to the medicinal virtues of Ashwagandha, Giloy and Tulsi," Patanjali spokesperson S K Tijarawala said.

India: Man held for minor cousin's rape in UP's Fatehpur

Fatehpur (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) A 28-year-old man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur for allegedly raping his minor cousin, resulting in pregnancy, police said on Wednesday.

According to them, the crime allegedly took place seven months ago in the Fatehpur's Malwan area. The pregnancy was detected after the 14-year-old girl underwent an ultrasound, they said.
