India: People await heavy rainfalls in city's different areas

KANPUR: Intermittent rains mixed with a thunderstorm in the afternoon brought some relief from the hot weather but the humidity still maintains at 74%.

Feeling unease at the constant fluctuating temperature the people have started discussing the weather. They want enough quantity of rains to get rid of the abnormal conditions.

One bearded young resident told that we were still not experienced the rains as occurred in Lucknow.

India: UP opposition leader tests positive for coronavirus

Ballia (UP ) June 23 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and Samajwadi Party leader, Ram Govind Chaudhary, has tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Tuesday.

Chaudhary was suffering from fever and cold and was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow on Monday where his sample was taken for testing, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Anand Prakash Joshi, said.

After the test report showed that he had contracted the virus, he was admitted to the SGPGI in Lucknow, the OSD added.

Water rains at KDA Colony locality in Kanpur's Jajmau area

KANPUR: Strangely enough, there were rains in the afternoon on one area of Jajmau while another area remained completely dry today.

When the residents of the Nai Chungi area were apprised of the rains occurring at KDA Colony locality, they looked surprised at this very authentic information. One lady learnt of rains on mobile and she could not believe at it. "How would this be possible?" She thought to herself.

India: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in UP

Lalitpur (UP) June 22 (PTI) A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance in Jakhora town here, police said on Monday.

Kure Ahirwar, 40, consumed the poisonous substance on Sunday afternoon and was rushed to a nearby government hospital, where he died during treatment, they said.

The family members of Ahirwar said that he was facing financial problems and had also taken a loan of Rs 2.50 lakh last year for the marriage of his daughter.

India: Kanwar yatra suspended in view of COVID-19

Lucknow, Jun 20 (PTI) Kanwar yatra during the auspicious month of 'Shravan' will remain suspended this year in view of the coronavirus pandemic, according to an official release issued on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a video conference with his counterparts of Haryana and Uttarakhand, M L Khattar and Trivendra Singh Rawat , respectively, and discussed the issue of annual Kanwar yatra in Shravan, an official release issued here said.

India: Monkey gets life imprisonment behind zoo

KANPUR: The monkey animal spirit is a powerful symbol of good luck. Perhaps this may have been the reason to train the monkey by an astrologer who nurtured it with a regular taste of liquor. Though he had tutored the one particular monkey for earning his livelihood, the simian started biting the common people that led its incarceration in Kanpur Zoo here.

As the monkey became fond of alcohol, it remains deprived of the drink and developed aggressive behaviour following the sudden death of the occultist. 

Indo-China border standoff: Plan to start construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya suspended

Ayodhya, Jun 19 (PTI) Amid the Indo-China border standoff, the Ram Mandir trust has put on hold its plan to begin the construction of the temple in Ayodhya.

In an official communique, the trust said that the situation at the India-China border is serious and defending the country is most important.

The decision comes days after a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh left 20 Indian Army personnel dead.

India: IIT-K starts production of N99 & N95 face masks

KANPUR: If Kanpur Municipal Corporation plans to boost its earnings by picking up junk out of the dry garbage, the IIT-K has aimed at producing N99 rated masks and N95 rated respiratory face masks on the campus. It has set up a target of delivering as many as 25000 pieces daily. What is considering is that the production unit remains completely automatic?

The production of the face masks will not only control the prices but also make the vital thing available quite easily to the public.

India: UP caps virus test rate at Rs 2,500

Lucknow, Jun 18 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday capped the rate of a coronavirus test by private laboratories at Rs 2,500.

"A maximum Rs 2,500 has been fixed as a charge for a single-step test for coronavirus by private labs," an official statement issued here said.

"For quality audit, private labs will have to provide samples, whenever demanded for referral labs of medical colleges," it said.

"Charging above Rs 2,500 will be considered a violation of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897," it added.

India: One more arrested for woman's rape in moving bus in UP

Noida (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) The Gautam Buddh Nagar police on Thursday arrested one more person in connection with the rape of a woman in a moving passenger bus, officials said.

The police had on Wednesday arrested one of the two accused drivers, while a search is on for two more persons in connection with the case, the officials said.

A 25-year-old woman who was travelling from Pratapgarh to Noida was allegedly raped at around 2 am on Wednesday in a privately-operated AC sleeper bus, according to the police.
