India: Residents await rains to get rid of weather pangs

KANPUR: There is no respite from the hot weather in the city. The real feel of today's temperature was around 44° Celsius. 

The steep hike the daily temperature has forced the residents to feel comfortable in cool air available through different gadgets.

One after another every family takes the help of prevalent air-conditioner. This is now a necessity of our lives.

India: 6 Tabligi Markaz attendee foreigners granted bail in UP; not allowed to leave India

Lucknow, Jun 9 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to six foreign nationals who had arrived here after attending a religious congregation at the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi and were booked under several sections of the law including the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Passport Act.

The bail was granted by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on June 2.

India: BJP busy in elections, ignoring problem of unemployment: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Jun 10 (PTI) Linking rising unemployment to cases of suicide, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday charged that the BJP was busy focusing on elections and not interested in tackling the problem of joblessness.

There have been some cases of migrant labourers, who have returned to Uttar Pradesh from other states recently, committing suicide.

India: UP Cabinet passes ordinance to prevent cow slaughter

Lucknow, Jun 9 (PTI) To protect cows and prevent their slaughter, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved a draft ordinance, providing a maximum rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and a fine up to Rs 5 lakh.

For the first offence, a person can be given a rigorous punishment of one to seven years with a fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.

For the second offence, the person can be given a 10-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine up to Rs 5 lakh, a statement said.

India: Temperature, corona cases, petrol price go up together

KANPUR: Not only the daily temperature recorded at a higher level in the city but there was registered an increase in the Corona cases along with a rapid rise in the petrol price here.

All these things increase concerns of the public at large. 

The daily temperature on Tuesday evening was not less than 40 degrees Celsius, though the real feel was more than recorded weather. The residents were not feeling comfortable without the electricity-driven cooling appliances. 

India: UP ATS arrests arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists

Lucknow, Jun 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad on Sunday arrested an alleged arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists, a senior officer said.

Additional Director General of the ATS, Dhruva Kant Thakur, said, "The UP ATS has arrested Javed, an arms supplier to Khalistani terrorists, from Hapur. Javed is a resident of the Kithore area of Meerut. His interrogation is on and the Punjab Police has been informed about the arrest."

Thakur said Javed has also supplied illegal arms to criminals in Amritsar.

India: BJP's Bihar virtual rally show of money power

Lucknow, Jun 8 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged on Monday that the BJP was using money power and holding virtual rallies in Bihar to break the morale of the opposition parties there.

"After defeat in Jharkhand, the BJP is understanding that people are against it in Bihar too," Yadav tweeted. "That's why it did a Rs 150 crore virtual rally to show its money and muscle power as it wants to break morale of the Opposition."

Ram temple construction to begin on demolished mosque land on June 10

Ayodhya, June 8 (PTI): The construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is set to begin Wednesday when the first bricks will be laid for its foundation, according to a spokesperson for the head of the temple trust.

The event will be marked by prayers to Lord Shiva at the Kuber Tila shrine on the Ram Janmabhoomi site, allocated for the temple in a historic Supreme Court verdict last November.

India: Hate speech case against UP Dy CM, 4 others allowed to be dropped

Allahabad, Jun 6 (PTI) A special court for lawmakers here has allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw a hate speech and assault case against Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and four of his supporters lodged in Kaushambi district in 2011.

Special Judge Bal Mukund allowed the state government's application to withdraw a case.

Following the court order, the case was dropped against four other accused Vibhuti Narayan Singh, Jai Chandra Mishra, Yashpal Kesari, Prem Chand Chaudhari, who all were on bail.

India: Kanpur IG asks SHO to fine him for not wearing mask then pays Rs 100

Kanpur (UP), Jun 6 (PTI) Setting an example, Inspector General of Police (Kanpur range), Mohit Agarwal, got himself challaned for not wearing a mask in public.

Agarwal asked the Station House Officer (Barra), Ranjeet Singh, to fine him for stepping out without wearing a mask.

The SHO made the challan and handed over a copy to the IG who paid Rs 100 as fine on the spot.

Agarwal later told PTI that he had gone to Barra on Friday for inspection and had stepped out of his vehicle without a mask.
