India: Migrant labourer commits suicide in UP

Fatehpur, May 31 (PTI) A migrant labourer who had returned from Delhi allegedly committed suicide following an argument with his wife, police said on Sunday.

According to SHO Lalauli Police Station, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, 50-year-old Genda Nishad had returned from Delhi around 10 days ago.

"On Saturday, his body was found hanging from a tree in Korarakanak village. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination," he said.

Nishad had borrowed some money from his wife Sushila and wanted more. However, the wife did not have any money.

India: Over 21 lakh migrant labourers have returned to UP

Lucknow, May 30 (PTI) More than 21 lakh migrant labourers have returned to Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the country on over 1,500 special trains so far, a senior state government official said on Saturday.

The Indian Railways started Shramik Special trains on May 1 to facilitate the movement of migrant labourers back to their home states during the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown.

India: Rains bring comfort on Saturday afternoon

KANPUR: Showers with a strong wind in the afternoon has brought down the harsh temperature to a little satisfying level. The hourly temperature at 6 p.m. was recorded at 34°Celsius on Saturday.

Though there was issued alarm of rainfall and storm, the sudden rains have definitely surprised the denizens. The 55% cloud cover indicates a renewal of rains in the night hours.

India: Teenaged girl raped by 3 in UP

Muzaffarnagar, May 29 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men who also recorded a video of the act at Bhohrahedi village under Bhopa police station in the district, police said Friday.

SHO Sanjive Kumar said the police registered a case against three men who were on the run and added that the girl was sent for medical examination.

KANPUR: Amidst the spread of the deadly coronavirus, there looms the raid of locust hoppers and pink-coloured swarms now.  The district administration has made necessary steps like spraying of chemicals and pesticides to save the crop from these flying insects. However, loud noise is still considered to its sudden attack. The farmers are fully aware of this traditional method.

One village farmer said: So far we were worried about the virus but the fear of locusts has worse than the corona. If the crop is destroyed it would be too difficult to survive.

India: Downpours can only bring respite from hot weather

KANPUR: The real feel of Thursday's temperature remains 43° Celsius. The weather is hot and unbearable. Disturbed with the hot weather, the people are said to be awaiting downpours for respite within two or three days. They are thankful that power disruptions were not effecting long duration. The electricity cut does take place almost daily but people are coping with the short disruptions.

In the morning the sunshine mixed with the clouds gives the feeling of hotness which continues till the end of the evening time. 

India: 3 migrant workers found dead in UP on Shramik trains

Ballia/Kanpur (UP), May 27 (PTI) Three migrant workers on board special Shramik Special trains were found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia and Kanpur while the fourth died in the hospital, officials said on Wednesday.

Police said one of the victims was 58-year-old Bhushan Singh, a resident of Bihar's Saran district.

He was found dead in the Surat-Hajipur Shramik special train in Ballia on Tuesday evening, SP Devendra Nath, said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem, police said.

India: Locusts reach Jhansi, other UP districts on alert

Jhansi/Lucknow, May 27 (PTI) After attacking crops in Madhya Pradesh, a swarm of locusts reached Jhansi district on Wednesday, an Uttar Pradesh official said.

Other districts in the region are also on alert.

Locusts struck the district last week as well, but they authorities said they eliminated half of that swarm with the help of local people.

The latest swarm was spotted in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh's Datia district.
