Lucknow, May 13 (PTI) Over three lakh migrants have returned to Uttar Pradesh in 268 special trains so far, the highest in the country, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Muzaffarnagar, May 14 (PTI) Six migrant workers, who were walking to their homes in Bihar from Punjab, were killed and five others seriously injured when a speeding bus ran over them on the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday between Ghalauli check-post and Rohana Toll Plaza, about 20 km from here, Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said.

The bus driver has been arrested, the SSP said.

Kanpur/Chitrakoot (UP), May 13 (PTI) Three migrant labourers and an infant girl were killed and 46 others suffered injuries in two road accidents when they were returning home in Uttar Pradesh from other states during the coronavirus-induced lockdown, officials said on Wednesday.

A truck carrying a group of 54 migrant labourers and their families from Ahmedabad in Gujarat to Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh rammed into a stationary truck near Lalpur police post on Kanpur-Jhansi highway, killing three people and injuring 43 others.

Etah (UP), May 12 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman and her father-in-law allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Akbarpur village in Malawan area, they said.

Priyanka allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Monday night, after which her father-in-law Phool Singh (60) also hanged himself from a tree outside the village, the police said.

KANPUR: Humidity and hot weather subsided in the afternoon as there was effected light rain today. The sky was still persisting with 45% cloud cover. The possibility of rain in the night can't be denied abruptly.

The day began with humid conditions and sunny sky. The change was only realised in the afternoon. The slight rains made the evening quite comforting. 

The real feel of the temperature stayed at 40 degrees Celsius and the humidity was recorded at 32%.

Gorakhpur/Lucknow, May 11 (PTI) Returning home to Uttar Pradesh from Telangana, two migrant labourers were killed and seven others injured after a truck they had hitched a ride on to take a break from walking overturned in Gorakhpur district on Monday, police said.

In another incident, a migrant worker cycling back to his native place in Bihar from Delhi died after being run over by a car in Lucknow on Saturday, they said.

KANPUR: A heavy storm suddenly encircled the larger area with sand in the city's suburban Jajmau in the evening today. The speed of the storm was immense. The darkness filled all over the place. It was later followed by showers. However, the residents coped with the stormy situation. 

The clouds stretched over the sky. The air turned out to be comforting. The humid weather persisted until the afternoon was transformed into pleasant weather. The clouds were continued to thunder. Even there was lightning too.

Lucknow, May 9 (PTI) Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav was discharged from a Lucknow hospital where he was admitted after he complained of stomach and urine-related issues.

The Samajwadi Party founder, admitted to Medanta Hospital on Wednesday, was discharged on Saturday afternoon and he is fine now, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.

Ballia, May 9 (PTI) Migrant workers returning from Rajkot to Ballia on a special train on Saturday claimed that Gujarat Police charged them Rs 725 fare.

Authorities here, however, said they had no information about it.
