KANPUR: Filth and dirty spots prevent one to move on the wider VIP Road even in the morning in Jajmau. The spacious road was so unclean as one cannot tolerate the worse sight. When important places are bereft of cleanliness, the condition of the city areas could be easily fathomed.

Lately, the city failed to secure a better place in ratings conducted under Swwacch Bharat Abhiyan. What to say of five-star rating it could not get a single star mark.

UP govt asks Priyanka Gandhi to provide buses to DMs of Gzb, Noida

Lucknow, May 19 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government Tuesday asked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to provide buses for carrying migrants to the district magistrates of Ghaziabad and Noida, as the war of words over the issue seemed to be subsiding.

In a letter written to Vadra's private secretary, UP's Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said, "As per your letter dated May 19, you have expressed your inability to provide buses in Lucknow, and want to provide them in Ghaziabad and Noida."

India: Boys await "Eidi" forgetting of special Eid prayer on festival

KANPUR: As the month of Ramazan draws closer towards the completion, the youngsters are focussing their minds on the collection of traditional "Eidi" from the elders. As many as 25 days of the month have been passed, only a few days are remaining. That's why the children are aiming at the gift.

India: 16.5 lakh migrant workers reached UP

Lucknow, May 17 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday said a total of 16.50 lakh migrant workers have already returned to the state.

"So far 16.50 lakh migrant labourers have returned to the state through trains, buses and other transports. Till Sunday morning, 6.65 lakh migrant workers arrived by 522 Shramik Special trains," said Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information) Awanish Awasthi.

India: UP police stops migrants in border districts

Lucknow, May 17 (PTI) Hundreds of migrants were stopped on Sunday by police in border districts of Uttar Pradesh from travelling to their native places by unauthorised vehicles and on foot during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, leading to protests in some areas.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Saturday directed district authorities not to allow migrants to travel by unsafe means and to ensure that they are transported in buses after 26 workers who were returning to their homes died in a truck-trailer collision in Auraiya.

India: Two trucks seized for carrying migrants illegally

Rishikesh, May 18 (PTI) Two trucks carrying 95 migrants illegally from Maharashtra were seized in Rishikesh over the last two days.

One truck with 33 migrants from Pune was seized near Saptrishi barrier of Raiwala on Sunday while another carrying 62 migrants from Nasik was seized by police in Muni ki Reti police station area on Saturday, police officials said.

India: Migrant workers stranded in Haryana cross Yamuna to reach UP

Muzaffarnagar, May 15 (PTI) Nearly 100 migrant workers crossed the Yamuna, which flows along UP-Haryana border on some stretches, and reached Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Friday.

The workers, who were stranded in Haryana due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, crossed the river and reached Kairana town in Shamli during Thursday night, police said.

The district authorities have sent them to a shelter home, police added.

India: Such accidents are not deaths, but murders: Akhilesh Yadav on UP truck accident

Lucknow, May 16 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday termed the death of 24 migrant labourers in Auraiya as "indescribable" sadness, saying such accidents are "not deaths, but murders".

At least 24 migrant labourers lost their lives and 36 people sustained injuries when a trailer truck carrying them collided with another truck in the early hours of Saturday in Auraiya, police said.

Both the trucks were carrying the labourers. The incident took place between 3 am and 3.30 am, they said.

Auraiya (UP), May 16 (PTI) At least 24 migrant labourers were killed and 36 people sustained injuries when a trailer truck carrying them collided with another truck in the early hours of Saturday in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

Both the trucks were carrying the labourers. The accident took place between 3 am and 3.30 am, they said.
