Fasting for boys remains a tough obligation

KANPUR: Fasting has always been a tough practice for the boys who escape the routine despite the parental indictment. It is definitely a tough obligation for them. However, they try to keep the fast for one, two, three or four days by saying no.

It is the fear of keeping the fast for a little short of fifteen hours that discourages the boys not to observe the fast willingly.

India: 8-yr-old girl raped by neighbour in UP's Maharajganj

Maharajganj (UP), May 8 (PTI) An 8-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Kolhi area here, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday when the girl was playing outside her house. The accused -- Vikram, who lives nearby, took her to his place on some pretext and allegedly raped her, they said.

The girl later narrated the incident to her family members, who registered a complaint in this regard with police.

The accused was arrested by the police and the girl has been sent for medical check-up, police said.

India: 5 arrested for looting petrol pump of BJP MP in UP

Chitrakoot (UP), May 8 (PTI) Five persons were on Friday arrested for their alleged involvement in looting Rs 50,000 from a petrol pump of a BJP MP in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The accused -- Virendra Yadav, Virendra Dhobi, Bacchilal, Direndra and Tejram -- were arrested on Friday and over Rs 57,000 were recovered from them, Superintendent of Police Ankit Mittal told PTI.

Police have also recovered a country-made pistol and a number of cartridges from them, he said.

India: Drunk man kills two-year-old daughter

Badaun (UP), May 8 (PTI) A drunk man killed his two-year-old daughter by smashing her into the ground after an argument with his wife in Bisauli area here, police said on Friday.

On Thursday, Sukhpal reached his home in an inebriated state and had an altercation with his wife. In a fit of rage, he threw his daughter on the ground, they said.

India: Man arrested in UP for killing minor daughters

Sambhal (UP), May 8 (PTI) A man was arrested in a village here on Friday for allegedly killing his two minor daughters and burying their bodies, police said.

The accused buried Pooja (6) and Jaya Prakanti (5) in Vamanpuri village of the Bahjoi area on May 6, claiming they had died of some disease, Circle officer (CO) Chandausi Ashok Kumar said.

India: Woman killed for dowry in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), May 8 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly killed for dowry in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district on Friday, an official said.

Police have booked 11 people, including the woman's husband, said SHO Aurai Ramji Yadav.

After the incident took place in Mahdepur village, the woman's in-laws took her to a hospital but she died during treatment, the station house officer said.

A family member of the deceased woman alleged that her in-laws killed her for failing to fulfil their demand for a car in dowry.

India: MBBS interns in UP, Raj protest, seek hike in stipend

Jaipur, May 8 (PTI) A meagre stipend of little over Rs 230 per day has left MBBS interns in government medical colleges of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh fuming with the budding doctors launching a social media campaign demanding a hike in the allowance.

Despite facing a slew of hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic and working for more than 10 hours daily to screen and survey people in remote areas, the interns have launched the #WeDemandStipendIncrement and #Rajasthan_Intern_Stipend_Badhao campaigns on microblogging site Twitter.

India: MLA asks UP govt to reconsider sale of liquor

Ballia (UP), May 7 (PTI) BJP MLA Surendra Singh on Thursday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to "reconsider" its decision to allow the sale of liquor in the state, saying that for the sake of revenue, compromising with human lives is not justified.

While talking to reporters, he said other measures can be taken for revenue generation in the state.

India: Nearly 3,500 migrants workers reach UP by trains

Banda/Lucknow (UP) May 7 (PTI) Over 3,400 migrant workers arrived in Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the country by Shramik special trains on Thursday, officials said,

As many as 1,220 migrants arrived in Banda district by from Surat in Gujarat, 1,192 arrived in Lucknow from Bengaluru and 1,079 arrived in Barabanki from Hyderabad.

India: UP govt lifts ban on sale of 'paan masala'

Lucknow, May 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has lifted its ban on 'paan masala' which does not contain nicotine and tobacco, according to an official order issued here.

"The ban on manufacturing and sale of 'paan masala' imposed on March 25 has been lifted," Commissioner Food Security and Drug administration Anita Singh said in the order issued on Wednesday.
